The Athletic:
In fact, despite getting throttled from a raw volume standpoint on the night, the Flyers actually won the Expected Goals battle, both at 5-on-5 and in all-situations. For all 80 of Calgary's shot attempts, it could muster just 2.44 xG on the night, while Philadelphia created 2.92 xG from just 39 attempts. That implies that the Flames' shot attempts had an average “expected” shooting percentage of 3.05%, while the Flyers finished at 7.49 percent. That's certainly one way to make up for a massive disparity in shot volume.

What I find funny is hextall told everyone hasktol is in no fear of losing his job. Yet he's coaching like a guy about to lose his job. Benching the rookies to protect a lead makes zero sense for a rebuilding team worried about development. It only means something to a contending team fighting for wins. This delusional fantasy that were a playoff team is not healthy and I still want hasktol fired and am souring mightily on hextall as this thing plays out. He acts like he's the smartest gm that ever lived and can't be criticized because he always knows best. Hubris is usually a fatal flaw in heroes. - Tfaehner
Not really, it is no different than a company saying that are not going to lay off people. A lot of them end up doing so.

For the record, I love Marchessault's play this season and can argue that he's been the team's most valuable forward, at least offensively. Some of his key underlying stats are in Tarasenko/Matthews territory, and while those may not be sustainable, I think he might be a legitimate first-liner regardless.
But Marchessault is also 26 and an impending UFA, and if -- if -- McPhee's focus is on the future and not right now, I think you consider trading him if you can get a first-round pick. I wouldn't deal him for anything less. - Sheng Peng, VGK Blogger

yes, since I am known around here by all as the guy who gets in daily 5 page arguments
- YuenglingJagr
I consider it debate, and I have no issue with that. I certainly don't get into 5 page debates with myself.
4 preseason games is not as relevant to me as how he is playing right now in the AHL. You have stated his play away from the puck wasn't NHL ready, which I know was just copy pasted from Hextall's reasoning for sending him down, but as we know that is the stance you took. You've also said Hextall won't keep guys down that are NHL ready...so I guess we don't know what to believe.
Hextall can come up with whatever reason he wants to keep Lindholm down...that doesn't mean a) Lindblom isn't NHL ready or b) he can't be criticized. - YuenglingJagr
You're wrong. I have not stated his play away from the puck wasn't NHL ready. It's the opposite of that as I just reiterated on the post you responded to.
You can make all the stories you want to on what you think I've done. That's irrelevant to the discussion. Again, you find the need to make it personal instead of just about the player being discussed.
I've said a lot of things about what I think Hextall philosophy is with regards to player development. What I've said is when Hextall thinks a player is ready to be promoted full time, he will do so. I've also said that Hextall believes in not rushing players and bringing most players along slowly.
In same manner just because you think a player is NHL ready, doesn't mean that he is. Criticize anyone you want.

He possesses all the skills and ability to be successful at the nhl level today. His scoring is a matter of when not if. If we're going to keep him down until he pots 30 a season he might be 27 before we call him up. Anyone saying differently has just been drinking too much of the kool aid - Tfaehner
Hextall should just use the fans method. He is young and we like him better. Call him up. |
