Apparently the Leafs were very close to trading for Barrie according to some insders.
Eklund said it too but he does not count
I wonder(if true) they would be taling about a Gardiner type swap or a Package |

If Risto is available TO can put together a good package that gives them a few pieces to pick from: defense prospects (Dermott, Neilsen, or Rosen), forward prospects (Bracco, Johnson or Grundstrom), roster players (Carrick, Soshnikov, or Lievo), and a first round pick. Buffalo could look a first round pick, Carrick, Rosen or Dermott, and Bracco for Risto and a second. Some of the pieces could be changed but Kapenin or Liligren should not be part of the package but if one does keep Liligren. |

I hope you are right - the Wedgies are making the road trip to Pittsburgh this Saturday!!!!! - Atomic Wedgie
It's a super easy trip from Buffalo. I've done it many times on trips to points farther south. From the border it's just 190 to 90 to 79 to 279. About 3ish hours from Buffalo depending on how fast you drive and if you stop. |

Nope, going to need a good roster player at least for him. Despite what a couple of dunces have said on here. He is much better than the raw numbers suggest.
Blue is good, red is bad. The only blue part on defense just happens to be the place Ristolainen is the whole time. It's not his fault the other players on his team suck. The left point is not his responsibility. Slightly to the right of just in front of the net is and he excels there. He's a mean mother(frank)er too. No he won't drop the gloves, but he gives guys the business in front and doesn't take poop from anyone.
You can't learn anything about him looking at raw numbers.
And aside from the injury this year he's been the bionic man playing almost 27 minutes a night.

He's average 5v5
I'd take a heavy pass on him
He is what he is, a good 3 d man that's good on the pp. but not worth paying for him because Buffalo will want a #1 d price |

There's definitely no fit between the two clubs. The Leafs have absolutely nothing Buffalo wants unfortunately.
We should all move on. |

If the Leafs traded Nylander for a D-Man (or even a package with Liljegren, a 1st, etc.), I think they could do better than Risto. He's good, but that reeks of Hall for Larsson. As long as Chia doesn't go blow his wad for a defenceman in the near future, maybe the Vatanen/Henrique trade brings the asking price for D back to reality. |

So what your saying is he lacks mobility. Cannot get out to the boards.... and/or is afraid of physical contact so won't go to the corners.

Mike Augello: Could a Sabres selloff be an answer for Leafs ‘D’ search??? - mikeinbuffalo
Dear Mike,
Buffalo has 16 points so far this year and is dead last in the NHL. I am assuming that Buffalo needs all of the defensive help they can get. And, what they have been using is prolly not working and of no use to the Leafs. It is not like they are going to go through a rebuild.
Anyway, I am sure it hard to find things to write about at this time of year. Keep up the good work.
