Yeah he is 100% done with ever playing hockey again. Basically Dr. Watkins said the surgery he just had on one level is now doing the exact same thing at a different level. There isnt anything that can be done to stop that at this point with how physical hockey is. Only option is to stop playing or his whole cervical spine will be fused to one big bone. |

It's too bad really, from a personal standpoint it's obviously the right decision for him. |

It’s amazing because he was playing some of his best hockey this season. Weird. |

I wouldnt be surprised to see the team play really bad for the next bit. Players take these things hard, you gotta think that they all feel awful for him. I remember watching a piece where zuccarello got hit in the head woth the puck, fractured his skull, and couldn't speak cause of the injury. Brassard and hagelin (linemates) went to visit him in the hospital and just started balling when they saw him. Luckily zuccarello can still play |

Sad news for Dorsett from a hockey perspective. Sad for the Canucks. The team just lost a lot of character. I wish him well moving forward.
He was my favourite Canuck. |

For a lot of guys like Dorsett their hardest battle has just begun. Retirement is limbo. They don’t know what to do with themselves. Drug and alcohol abuse and depression.
Hope he has a good support network. |

On the ice, he played an important checking role, probably not as good without him as they dont have an immediate replacement. Which is fine because it helps the tank |

Statement from Dorsett sounds like the Dr is saying his playing days are done, and he is thankful for the time he spent in the NHL. Feel awful for the guy.
I guess nuck4u really feels awful now that we lost a "pump and dump trade chip". - Codes1087
Even I feel bad for him going out like that. I guess he will wipe away the tears with the millions of dollars he has made. |

This could be bad for the tank, I don't like that. throw a DD on the helmet and tribute this season to him, and it could fire guys right up. |

I dont think the $ he made will be any consolation for him not playing anymore. Hes a guy, like burrows, who played a different tempo than the rest. You could tell the guy lived and breathed hockey, not the pay cheque |

Maybe he'll be a coach. Either way, I feel bad for the guy but hard to feel too bad. he had a pretty long career and made lots of money, has a young family. I felt way worse for Kariya. Guys have to retire because of injury or age every year, it's the way professional sports work. |

I agree – sort of annoying when people try to brush it over with "he made a lot of money, it can't be that hard lol." I'm sure for a guy like DD he would gladly give millions away to not have the injury and be able to play again.
Yes, he's set for life (if he's handled his money well), but an intense acute injury that decides your future for you isn't easy to manage mentally, no matter how much money you have. Hope he's going to be alright moving forward. |

I say the opposite. Teams rally around these things more so than lick their wounds. |

While he was pretty insensitive about his comments, I dont think they were that bad. Fans in general are pretty insensitive to the human element of sports, thinking its justified based on the millions of dollars they make. Whoever referenced the NFLers as 'cattle' essentially summed up all athletes.
Every time players exercise their NTC's, uses the college 'loophole', get demoted, or injured has an impact on their personal and home life. As fans we criticize them and say things like "I'd accept millions in exchange for that" when we really have no idea. Moving children cross country, selecting your own home, or being away from family are all similar things that fans should probably empathize with but dont.
I do feel bad for Dorsett, but I do think its excessive to pile on one guy's comments when we have seem similar type comments made about out-casting Eriksson/Edler/etc. and then joke about their feelings. To most fans, athletes are assets and nothing more |

He compared his injury to cancer and then asked when the candle light vigil was happening. The dude was insanely insensitive man. Then talked about losing a trade chip immediately after he went for a dr appointment |
