This trade makes no sense for the Oilers.
They'd need to shed salary to make room for a resigned JVR and Gardiner while giving up their best young prospect, a probable top 10 pick AND Caleb Jones?
Sounds like giving up way too much, especially when you consider the other player they'd lose when sheding salary. - Scabeh
So Chia accepts it then? |

Oiler's are a complete mess. Would Chiarelli be vulnerable enough to do something like this:
To Oilers:
JVR (resigned) 6 x 6?
Gardiner
To Leafs:
Puljujarvi
Caleb Jones
1st round pick in 2018 (should be a good one!)
Thoughts? - wbodnaruk

Agree with you, I think Oilers trade chips are limited though, RNH has not earned his pay and woud be a possibility, maybe Klefbom - if they are dumb enough to move him or draft picks. No one will pick up Lucic and that contract.

that condition doesn't make alot of sense since Leafs are giving up the regular nhl players in the trade.. |

I fully expect the Habs to trade Galchenyuk for Lucic in the next few days.
It will be the last dumb move for Bergefail. |

Also it doesnt make sense for the Leafs. taking 2 good roster players and moving them for futures at this point is not the direction they are going |

chia is dumb, more more like puljujavi for gudbranson dumb. - Tumbleweed
Yes - it's an aggressive and unrealistic trade to take advantage of a hopeless GM on a floundering team. JVR gives them more top 6 talent, which they actually need. If he'd resign there for $5-$6M then they would probably do it. Gardiner gives them a rushing defenseman who can help start plays and has the potential to be good if he stops having brain-farts.
From a TML perspective, Jones is a prospect - that's it. Same with Puljujarvi - just potential here. The 1st rounder is just adding insult to injury, so feel free to take that out of the equation. Yes - we're not rebuilding, but JVR will not be resigning, Gardiner can be shipped and replaced by Dermott, and then we have some new prospects in the pool + we could use those assets for acquiring a top 4 D potentially.

Maybe he does.
But he almost signed with the Habs before choosing the Oilers.
He's good friends with Gallagher, Weber and Price... all BC boys. |

Wow - that would be a stinky one for the Habs, but would help the lottery pick if that's the goal. With the season a quarter way through I've been hearing various takes on which Canadian teams are the most surprising. Edmonton is on top of the list for most, and I would agree, but many mention the Habs - and they've underperformed for sure, but honestly, I am very surprised by how well Vancouver has done, I expected them to be near the bottom. If Bergevin doesn't do anything too stupid, I think Montreal could compete for a wild card, for me they are better than Ottawa.

Well you asked for our opinion, we gave it to ya.
This proposal makes way more sense for Toronto than it does for Edmonton. |

Habs are probably not as bad as their record show.
But everything is going badly so far. There is hope for that first overall.... especially with Arizona who started winning. |

Molson should step down and let a real hockey guy take over and clean house. He's done better at selling beer than at hockey.

JVR has a limited no-trade clause - 10 teams he can't be traded to.
While we have no way of knowing for sure...
...we know for sure that Edmonton is on that list. |
