Well, that part about Barzal isn't necessarily true. The word on draft day was that they were aiming for Svechnikov or Eriksson-Ek but that was under the assumption that Barzal wouldn't drop. Once he DID drop, all bets are off. We can't REALLY comment on what their plan was with confidence.

Carlo was the player they were supposedly high on (as per Stauffer) for that 33rd pick. He's now an NHL regular.

Bottom line is this team needed it's makeup changed. We needed defense and needed to get heavier. Chia made the bold moves to get that done.

This team was a point out of winning the division last year and a badly called game out of the final 4 in the playoffs.

I agree that something should have been done knowing Sekera would be out for an extended period but this team is not this bad.
