Thats generally how guys get paid, market value by comparisons to their peers, which is what the post was about.

Who cares what they mean to you?

- LeftCoaster

Yes but i am not a conformist cuz ppl believe its the only way aka status quo.
Players r worth what how well they perform as not as what others perform as. Thats folly & what agents would make ppl think. Paying salary for past performance is bad business without a large sample size.

So the post was about paying D for no special achievements performed means UFA’s get stupid money. Marvelous.

It will be in the LE category if we sign him with a cap hit of anything over 3 to play 3rd pairing
- Codes1087

Its very possible a cap drag would occur.
Trade him for a solid return avoids that if the right TDL deal can be extorted.

i only see a couple/few players that will be around long term. the rest are just place fillers until the team actually needs "complementary" (start spelling it right people! and that means you lefty) players.

as for now, i'd be open to offers on almost everybody.

(and yes i know this is a recipe for a disastrous season or two. i'm team tank.)

Q: disastrous seasons r healthy in the big picture longterm if breeding losing is acceptable solely for unknown draft picks?

remember that there IS a league imposed fee for relocation. In todays nhl it is likely to be around 150 M. Add the new jersey profits etc and should be good revenue for the league. So I doubt that is it. Id say it has more to do with screwing up details in the local / national TV deals. Not easy to fix

good points. I forgot all about the relocation fee.

Cheers.
