It was I who supported & wanted TG. I didn’t see why groom him & not promote him. His pedigree & type of career he had seemed a natural fit. - Nighthawk
He's inexperienced at the NHL level as a coach of any sort. I think it shows sometimes against more experienced coaches. He's learning, whether or not he will have learned enough by the time this team is ready to compete will show whether or not it was the right move.
I like his coaching style. He is doing really what most fans have been looking for. It's 15 games in though. |

Top 10 draft pick who can move the puck and play the PP.
Top 4 shutdown dman who can intimidate and protect the net.
Good physical depth dman.
I feel fine with it honestly. If they keep playing well I think I'd move Tanev for a 25 goal winger and run away laughing. - Nucker101

good year to tank.
either way, good early results. - Tumbleweed
Tanking is a flawed antiquated method that does more harm to team rebuilding and player development then good. It can't guarantee sought returns in the modern lotto system. Thus setting up a team to tank will probably achieve a redundancy of failure. |

Right now he's trending there and we'll see if Pouliot can handle it given the injury situation. It's good for development to know what you got or where he is at.
Guddy also will be pressed into top 4 play and that will determine contract price how he fairs. Just cutting it and not excelling means under $4M.
My only caveat to above is that TG will have to find a way for team to respond without Tanev. He is an organic component to team viability. Not just the glue for D but makes team flow after his shifts. Without his influence on team chemistry and play its a bit of a firing squad situation for the others to make due. - Nuck4U

Intangibles will get him $3-4M but for more and especially long term he's got to improve value with performance. More so on a team that is rebuilding and not going for it. So we'll know by February if things align otherwise it's trading time. |

Tanev hurt again.
Good when healthy and a hard guy to replace. You guys may want to keep him if bottoming out is to be avoided. |

True, but I'm guessing it still does ring often, in fact he's said multiple times that teams constantly call him asking for a dman |

Best showing on Pouliot is that he hasn't been prone to bone head giveaways or losing coverage. The eye test and stats back it up. TG knows how to work this kid and his redevelopment is trending in the right direction.
What gets people excited is that as a high draft pick and still fairly young for a D if his reclamation works out to going anywhere near the potential that was hoped for it would be a boon to a thin D core. We'll take a 5/6 D for a 4th and relic any day. But 4/5 guy is money! - Nuck4U
Not completely directed at you, but this hyperbolic notion that coaches "know how to work ____" is hilarious to me. Yes, some coaches can get through to players better than others by communicating systems better, but saying Green is the reason Virtanen and Pouliot are better is like saying Green is why the Sedin's suck this year.
Personally I think getting sent/kept in the AHL, being traded, and getting old had more impact on those 4 guys than the coaching did |
