That too.

But I'm talking about Simmonds giving up when Arizona got the puck after and changing. Puck was going the other way, and he went right to the bench. Skating normally back likely neutralizes it. Voracek had no time to get there but took the minus. Simmonds can't do that.

- Mononoke

Maybe he figured he'd use the ol' teleport trick. Make the change on the close end of the bench and have the player jump on 20 feet down the ice

I'm with you though, there was an apparent lack of hustle last night plaguing them

I'm sorry you're looking for an apology for making a wild-ass guess that happened to come true.

Everyone knows this. Nobody expected us to be "there" now. (I'll spare you the question of where "there" is)

In this nor the other thread have I seen one person "let them off the hook"

- Scoob

I don't think anyone expects us to be there yet, I agree. However, you can't lose to Arizona. You just can't. Even past Flyers contending teams find ways to throw away points against these awful teams.

Eh, it sucks but it happens. It's that whole "on any given night..." thing. Arizona was more than ready to play and had a lot riding on the game. They get full props for doing what needed to be done.

Can't help thinking that deep down you're happy that a team with Luke Schenn on it beat the Flyers.

You guessed right. You had a 50/50 shot. Not all that impressive.

judging by people's reactions here I would guess the vegas odds would have had us winning this game

News flash: Every team in the NHL finds ways to throw away points during an 82 game season. Move on and focus on the next one.

Sanheim made a bad turnover, but Simmonds barely even got mentioned for an absolutely terrible change into a 3v2 which led to the goal, with the trailer getting the primary assist. I get he's hurting, maybe he was tired, but with even a bit of hustle that odd man is neutralized instead of the others being left out to dry. Again, he's not fully healthy, but his decision making has been disaster level on/off the puck these last handful of games.
- Mononoke

Simmonds was a complete non factor all game. Hopefully it is is due to physical issues.

Sincerely believe if Ghost and Patrick stayed healthy their record would be a handful of points better, and there's a lot less "we suck again" around Flyerdom. Additionally, a healthy AMac and Sanheim/Morin instead of Manning and I really think we'd be calling this season a surprise.

With that said, I do think they'll improve on what they've shown in the first couple weeks.

- Giroux_Is_God

I don't think this team sucks, but even with health I'm not sure they'd be a whole lot better. Should have got points at Nashville and Ottawa.

Same. A win one, lose one team.

If we make the playoffs it's because the Rangers suck and the caps have taken steps back. The Pens don't look great from what little I've seen of them but I know they're gonna turn it around.

- SuperSchennBros

To me it's about who they are beating and losing to. Watch them beat Chicago tomorrow but get their buttcheeks kicked in by Colorado Saturday.

I completely agree with the any given team can beat another team mantra. I just don't like how and why they lost.

Bill, you are a beacon of sanity in our usual thread of overhype, overreaction and mindless obsession.

Thank you.

Rookies make mistakes, the good ones learn from them. Kids that can step in and within a few weeks look like 10 year vets like Provorov did are extremely rare, especially when it comes to Dman

Thank God we didn't have the internet and social media in the early 70s or Rick Macleish, Mike Schmidt and Larry Bowa would all have been ridden out of town as total busts 5 or so games into their careers.

Player development is usually a long term process with peaks and valleys. Outside of truly special players like Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux and Lindros, very few kids come in and dominate from day one. Savor Provorov, players like him are few and far between. Years from now, when they re-rank the 2015 draft class, don't be surprised to see him at #2 behind only McDavid.

Today he’s a beacon of reprimanding his readers. It’s always a breath of fresh air.

I seem to remember being told last season that Morin needed to work out his positioning problems in the AHL, that they couldn’t afford those growing ains in the show. Now we’re allowing Sanheim to work through them on the Flyers. Meanwhile Morin still has work to do. IMHO Sanheim has shown consistently more trouble finding his lanes. I have faith both of them are going to be excellent defensemen.

Of course what do I know with my inability to learn fom 5 decades of watching hockey at every level.

Yeah... well old anyway. My Uncle took me to some guys the very first season, got hooked on the game and the Flyers as a kid
