Lets talk some scoreboard.

1 head to head to head game, won by Ottawa.

6 games with common opponents (Ottawa has played 2 of them a 2nd time, Leafs played LA a second time)

Record against common opponents...

Ottawa
1 - 1 - 4

Leafs
4-2

Other opponents so far
Ottawa
Vancouver (2) 14-8-4
Detroit (game 2) 6-7-1
Calgary 7-6-0
Edmonton 4-7-1
New Jersey (game 2) 9-3-0
Vegas 9-4-0

Toronto
Winnipeg 7-3-3
Carolina 4-5-3
Chicago 7-5-2
NYR 6-7-2
San Jose 8-5-0
Anaheim 6-6-2
Los Angeles (Game 2) 10-2-2
St. Louis 11-3-1

Uncommon opponents, Ottawa: 49-35-6... p% .578
Uncommon opponents, Leafs: 59-36-15... p% .604

So, in conclusion, The Leafs have had a better record against common teams, and tougher opponents of those teams that are not common opponents.

Both teams have had western road swings but Vancouver-Calgary-Edmonton was nowhere near the San-Jose, Anaheim, LA., Stl trip the Leafs just finished.

So, yeah, the standings show the Sens are 1 pt up and 1 gm in hand, but once again, for a team that is built to win now, being only ahead by that much is pathetic, especially since one could make a good argument that the Leafs have been the worst team in the NHL over the past 10 days.

not exactly screaming Stanley Cup. Sens fans should be very concerned.

leafs fans know that a bunch of guys on the current roster are not in the plans for when they contend.

Of all the conversations on the triparite deal involving Nashville, Ottawa and Colorado the point I found most hard to believe is that Nashville will not make Ekholm available under any circumstance. But, the same is not true for Subban and the Preds are open to moving him.

First thing I thought of was the Leafs. But, with his cap hit I don't think it would be viable to absorb his cap hit over the long term.

Did a closer look at the results make you sad?

The Leafs are trending exactly where I thought they would be.

Your Sens are not.

I cannot imagine the Leafs wanting the Subban distraction and you are right, I do not see them fitting him under the cap.

The proposed deal I saw yesterday was pretty ridiculous for all teams involved.

If I am the Sens though... I didn't like the sound of it. Turris for Duchene is a big win, but I think it doesn't do enough to put you over the top, there is no guarantee Duchene signs, and the futures you would have to give up also would hurt.

I've explained this before ......... to compare "Records", during the season, one would use Points Percentage, as teams have not played the same number of games.

http://www.nhl.com/stats/...o=20172018&sort=pointPctg

So today........ for example, the Senators sit with the 11th best record after 14 games (0.607) ..............The Bruins sit with the 17th best record after 12 games (0.542) ........... The leafs sit with the 19th best record after 15 games (0.533)
.......... and the Montréal Canadiens sit with the 27th best record after 13 games (0.393)

I'm not sure about who was giving up " the futures" in this proposed three team trade.

If Colorado was trading Duchene to Ottawa, and the Sens were sending Turris to Nashville ......... I would assume that Nashville was the team giving up " the futures", again assuming the trade was conditional on Turris signing a contract extension.

So from my point of view, the Sens were not the team going to be giving up "the futures" ...... it was going to be the Predators ....................... unless you know something I've not heard about .................. because Nashville had to have something involved in the three team trade ....... right?

Probably nothing happens and Turris resigns for 5 years at $6.5m. He wants to stay. The Sens want him to stay. The problem is the 8 year term. It is not going to happen happen in Ottawa or Nashville.

At some point, something has to give.

Karlsson, all things being equal will be 12 x 8 on the market, maybe even more. With a hometown discount, you might get him for 10? Same with Matthews, you *might* get him for 11 or so, maybe.

The problem is that every other "good" player seems to think they should get 7 or 8 plus for 8 years. You just can't put a team together that way.

Turris is underrated imho. He is also a very good fit with the Ottawa system. He is not a #1C on most teams in the league. In fact, I am not sure I can think of one besides Ottawa or Montreal.

2nd line caliber players need to get back to making 5.5 or so, otherwise teams will find it very hard to build a contender.

Sens getting Duchene

Heard Bowers, Turris, Hammond, 1st and 3rd from Ottawa.

Seems like a good deal for the Sens, not giving up White, Chabot or Brown AND dumping the Hammond contract.

A family member won a Leaf signed jersey at a poker tournament last night and offered it to me. I responded by saying I would rather eat poop than take a Leaf jersey.
I was told that the jersey was not for me personally but for the agency that I work for and their fund raising initiatives. Perhaps someone might like to initiate the bidding.

a Turris + prospect + a 1st and 3rd is a steep price to upgrade from Turris to Duchense.

Points and scoring wise the 2 players are pretty even over the past few seasons.
Sens really going all in again to try and win

I think that is correct. Boucher is really happy with the play of Pageau and Thompson. Both are playing strong defensive games and playing larger minutes. I think this is all about going all in this year.

The "prospect" was the 28th overall selection this past Spring.
There are very few 28th overall picks that you can point to as top line players.

The 3rd pick was probably the price asked to take Hammond off the Sens hands, and get his 1.5 Million off the Belleville books.......... also opens up the back up spot for Hogberg

And depending on how deep the Sens go in the playoffs (if they make them) will determine how high the 1st rounder is next spring.

Turris was not going to sign a 6 year 6 Million contract in Ottawa ....... so what would you have done if you were faced with a player (Turris) that was not going to re-sign under the conditions the team wanted him at?

Trade him for less at the trade deadline?
Let him walk for nothing on July 1st?

You are right. It is a great solution for the Sens long term.

Keep it simple lots of fans including Leafs and Canadiens supporters are just a little jealous this morning.

Did Ottawa improve their 2017-18 roster. .............. yes.

Will Ottawa have a better roster in 2018-19, if they re-sign RFAs Stone & Ceci and add one or more of their Prospects from Belleville ........... yes again.
