interesting that sens fans don't want to talk about their team anymore. guess we know why they bothered to come here in the past. horrible troll. its okay. well talk about their team for them.

sens are a hot mess. karlsson is a liability on the ice.

If he hasn't physically checked out, he certainly has mentally and emotionally.

it seems like every night the highlight reel is a mess of Karlsson gaffs leading directly to goals.

that sums it up well. leafs playing good hockey considering they finished dead last two years ago. no team is perfect. tampa is as close as you get though, but even they lose games from time to time. would be silly to be down on these leafs when they havent even played their best hockey yet. guys like aeth gotta accept teams allow goals and lose games. even the best teams. the future of the Leafs team is bright.

something I've noticed about him for years.... he NEVER ties up his man in front of the net. he always comes out 8 or 10 feet and tries to intwrcept. I mean when he does, it's an easy transition out. when he fails there is often a guy sitting there alone in front of the net. and it ends up in the back of the net alot. in years past he's had guys covering up for him. this year not so much.

but don't they teach you to tie your man up from about 6 years old? you get benched for not doing that in peewee.

Only Sens fans believe he is a good defensive Dman. Only Sens fans believe he has any interest, beyond an expensive 8th year, in staying in Ottawa.

The truth is, he is horrible defensively, even a stat as flawed as +/- can't be ignored when compared to the other top dmen. He will also be gone unless Ottawa pays through the nose (and I hope they do). Hell, he might even take less to go to a better situation.

Good comeback win from the Leafs. Nice to see them getting skills competition points this season.

Back to back 6 goal performances with wins for the Sens including beating arguably the league's best team. Points in 4 of the last 5 games with only a single Sens point. Not too shabby. Also, a great performance from Batherson at the WJC.

Record over the past 5 games and 4th round prospects WJC performance matter.

Schedule fun...

Ottawa benefits from playing a team the night after Toronto 4 times.
Toronto benefits from playing a team the night after Ottawa 0 times.

Montreal Benefits from playing a team after Toronto 7 times
Toronto Benefits from playing a team after Montreal 2 times

Montreal and Ottawa each benefit 1 time from an opponent playing the other team the previous night.

So total ...

Ottawa 5 games after Montreal or Toronto played the same team the night before
Montreal 8 games after Ottawa or Toronto played the same team the night before
Toronto 2 games after Ottawa or Montreal played the same team the night before

Clearly, the League favors the Leafs.

Leafs really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last night. Reminiscent of some of last year's first half. I had TB, TOR, BOS for the Atlantic this season but it's sure looking more and more like the Bruins will be the ones with home ice advantage.

Dermott has been good so far but I don't think he moves the needle enough on his own, for now at least, to improve the defence to a point where they can shut down a team with Boston's experience come playoff time. And we've seen that they aren't going to simply overwhelm teams offensively all year, especially the way playoff games are played and officiated.

I don't want to see them overpay for a mediocre, short term upgrade on defence (Green, Gudbranson) that ultimately won't lead to moving any further along in the playoffs or help in the long term. Take this year to gain more experience, hope for the best outcome and go into next year hungrier and hopefully with more options to get better in the areas of most need.

100% agree

If a minor temporary upgrade costs any significant futures, then don't do it.

Look at the experience of most of Tampa and Boston's core. We are still a couple years away.

they used to matter.

results? meaningless.

Pointless benching of Dermott for tonight's game. He played well over 2 games with different partners and having to play his off side, should be part of the future of the club, named to the AHL all star team but has to sit in the last game before the Leafs get a week off, against a weak opponent but being from Newmarket it may mean something to him to play in the battle of Ontario. Why? So Carrick, Borgman and Polak can play? We know, for the most part what they are. Defence is the biggest need and external options are limited and likely too costly. Why not get a better look at a possible internal solution?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sens win tonight on a PP goal with Polak in the box (again) or because Carrick got muscled off the puck against the boards (again).

Seriously, what reasoning is there? Especially with Polak. If you actually have something I'm overlooking I'd like to know. From what I've seen the kid steps in, handles himself well then gets told to sit down in favour of at least one fringe player. Doesn't make the team better for tonight. Doesn't do anything to help the kid's development. Doesn't help to see if the team can maybe roll with what they have moving towards the trade deadline.

i dont really care. Dermott is and will a big part of this teams future. in babcock i trust. hes done wonders with Morgan Rielly through tough love. i think right now babcock is working a rotation to see as much as he can before he locks down the playoff roster.

Obviously a schmuck like me on a message board will know less about hockey over my lifetime than Babcock has already forgotten but this just seems too "old-school" for me.

I'm hoping for a full blown ass plowing of the Senaturds as you've been requesting but it just seems, timing wise, that you play the kid against this soft opponent hoping to see him string together a nice little three game set before the break. Polak is what he is and you know what you're going to get. If Babcock wants to see as much as he can before setting his playoff roster then see if the youngster from the AHL can show consistency at the NHL level. Go Leafs go!
