this.

he's also always the forgotten man when it comes to chiarelli trades.

ill have to go look, but my guess is Boston also ended up with a big pile of not much from Wheeler also

chiapet just burning a trail of high end talent tossed aside for scraps

Top 50 scoring reads like a who’s who of chiarelli trades:

4. Wheeler
6. Kessel
20. Seguin
23. Hall
38. Barzal
.
.
.
79. Eberle needs to step it up.

unlike the sens, the habs have goaltending that can consistently get them into the playoffs.

and unlike the sens, the burins have a true #1C and actual good young dmen.

it's going to get worse for the sens as the season wears on.

All I'm saying is that the Bruins are in the Drivers seat, for the third playoff spot in the Atlantic ............... the Habs are sitting in the back seat, despite what you see in the standings today.

The Senators are still visible, in the rear-view mirror, and it looks the Bruins would need to hit a few potholes for Ottawa to even catch up, to even have a chance at jumping on the running boards.

Oh, the Lightning and leafs are in the car ahead, and the leafs are sitting in the passenger seat.

Tampa Bay Lightning 0.731
leafs 0.625
Boston Bruins 0.583

Montréal Canadiens 0.518
Ottawa Senators 0.480
Detroit Red Wings 0.463
Florida Panthers 0.442
Buffalo Sabres 0.296

sens can catch the Habs pretty easy. 3 games in hand, down 1 point....easy peasy. recent history says so.

The Habs fans are all excited, believing THIS is their real team.

It isn't.

No. Much like the Sens of last year were smoke and mirrors. But the Habs arent as bad as their start either.

Sens don't need to just catch the Habs, they need to catch the Bruins too, and the more teams you have to catch and pass, the harder it is for the team(s) behind those in playoff spots ............... history has shown it's no easy job ...... and personally I don't see it happening for the Senators, anytime soon.

agreed, this is Price with the team on his shoulders, and for him to keep this up for the remainder of the season is asking a lot ........... after all, he does have the occasional off game, and could be more prone to injury if the use him too much.

Ottawa was allowing an average of 30.1 shots against per game last season, this season they've slipped to an average of 30.5 shots against per game.

This is something they need to improve, as they're not getting the goaltending they did last year.

Let's see what the numbers look like when Turris no longer plays with Karlsson. Let's see what happens when Karlsson starts feeding Duchene.

Great time to be a hockey fan.

Yeah this is a classic case of that old adage about never being as good as you are when you're winning or being as bad as you are when losing.

Montreal's previous five games

Buffalo
Columbus
Ottawa
Detroit twice.

and Detroit is a tire fire the last little while.

They basically have played 4 games against the 3 worst teams in the league. The Columbus win, Carey Price stole for them.

30.5 - 30.1 is .4 shots a game ... so about 10 more shots on the season, so we should expect about 1 more goal allowed.

Just pointing out that last season, one of Ottawa's goals, as the season progressed, was to cut down on the number of shots the goaltenders faced, and that was all part of the implementation of Boucher's "system", and an attempt to keep the Sens close, and in the "game" and have a shot at winning more than their share of "one goal" games.

So far this season, they've failed to make an improvement on this goal, from last season.

No team, even the leafs, can sustain a high number of shots against and hope to succeed in the playoffs...... even toronto hockey God Don Cherry has pointed out that the leafs allow way to many shots, per game and that your starter is holding the leafs in games, despite this, and that it's not a key to success in the long run.

Don't get me wrong, the leafs play in the weakest division in the NHL, and do benifit from that, and they're a solid lock for the playoffs, and of course, leaf fans can now begin to speculate on where the best spot is, along the parade route .......... just in case!

Not a bad read.

From Carey Price's surge to Frederik Andersen's dominance, Canadian teams' fates hinge on play of one star

isnt it around 30 shots?

but anyways not enough to even bring up as an issue

Just that a team sv% is .893
So they have to get the shots per game down to around 18 if they want to win games

Well, as long as we are talking "just in case".

The Leafs also cannot sustain their poor defensive play.
