I didn't get to watch the game last night. I've been fighting some sort of gastro intestinal virus the past few days and feel like a sack of smashed spatsos.

What I saw this morning was a shot count that Babs will not be happy about but I'm sure he, like us, will take the 2 points and move on. Speaking of points, the Leafs are currently just a single point behind Tampa who are IMO currently the class of the league. And this is with Willy being relegated to the bottom 6, Marner mired in a goal scoring slump and still lacking a legitimate top end defender.

Granted Tampa has 2 games in hand and since that's a guaranteed 4 additional points (at least it is if you're Ottawa) then the Leafs are really 5 points back. Either way, 2nd in the division is exactly what I expected from them. On to Vancouver to play a very surprising Nucks team.

Leafs are a lock for the playoffs. It's hard for them to get up for games constantly. They'll go through the motions between now and April.

sorry to hear that.

I watched the game, 1st was all Leafs..seemed like they were going to run over the loloilers

Nylander had a game.. he can be so smooth and slick

Overall the Leafs had more high danger shots

Russell goals were great, especially the winning goal he score for the leafs

I thought I read somewhere that the games start to matter once December starts. A quick check of the old calendar tells me that's today. Now if only I could remember where I heard that before. It's like a tiny, hollow voice pathetically squeaking out from under a rock in darkest depths of a cave in some remote wilderness.

Your concern is greatly appreciated.

I'll have to watch the highlight pack from the comfort of the porcelain throne while squirting out some spaz-d'oops.

never said that. once again you go to fart and end up d'oopsing in your pants.

i said you cant assume anything and i was right.
sens were down 1 point and you were so excited about games in hand you thought it was a lock to get one point in three games.

sens are 5 points back now. games in hand though, right? but youre the guy who thinks scoring more than you allow is irrelevant so this is hardly a shock.

sens with a tough road matchup against probably the class of the metro, in the isles. the streak may continue.

panthers with a chance to move past the sens. sens may start to hear the footsteps of the sabres if they win tonight.

Are the Sens tanking?

It may explain the Turris for Duchene trade.

Falling for Dahlin? The veiled tank?

Masterstroke from Dorion. Hire a coach who will win at first, but start to lose when it matters most with an elite prospect available.

I'm shocked I didn't see this sooner. So stealthily executed.

The Leafs have won a lot of games when they have been badly out-shot. I think the effect of having the lead and the other team "pressing" is maybe more pronounced than people think.

Saw his assists in the highlights. He reminds me of Backstrom sometimes.

Babcock is grooming Matthews to be Datsyuk

The pain must be intense for you guys at this point. Spazzo has packed it in entirely.

Wait until the Leafs sign Karlsson.

pretty stupid to tank when you dont pick until the 4th round and you just traded your last years first rounder and losing another in the future...but thats the sens for you. at least they have games in hand. automatic points.

protecting it was key

We are moving into stage II of a typical blue koolaid summer. Fans are beginning to notice the stories being floated that Marner might not be fit enough or ready for NHL prime time. Leafs are a last place team, they are sort of like a very young Edmonton crew of last year without McDavid.

But Leaf fans are great hockey fans and now that the silly summer chatter is winding down, they are getting around to a more balanced level of hockey discussion. We will see the Stage III early season euphoria when they win a few games at the beginning of the season and the Toronto based media predicts good things for them. But the Stage III crash into despair will come like clockwork in early December. Stage IV acceptance of reality will include some anger and frustration but it is not long lasting. And, come early March, Stage I starts again with a high degree of hopefulness as speculation of the guaranteed Tavares signing gets ramped up and fans discuss the great potential of the impending lottery and draft.

Valid point. As I said, I didn't get to watch the game but score effects could definitely play a part. I see that they were outshot by 8 in the 2nd period which they entered with a 3 - 1 lead. I can't make fully informed judgements based on highlights and box scores alone though.

Beautiful assist by Gryba on the Moore goal and Russell should have been 1st star with 2 goals and an assist including the game winner. Yet another master stroke from the Chiapet.

nothing's perfect.

i usually i look at corsi-close: tied or a 1 goal game.

but even that gets skewed by third period 1-goal leads.
