I think Ghost should stay on the left and Sanheim move over to the right. Have the 3 LD and 3 RD and then just mix up the pairings as needed during the game
- YuenglingJagr

Once Morin enters the lineup, I'm guessing they go with:

Provorov-Gudas
Ghost-Hagg
Morin-Sanheim

The top 2 pairs will likely see heavy minutes with the 3rd being sheltered. Sanheim would probably get extra time in the top 4 when the Flyers are trailing and during 4 on 4 play and Morin would replace Ghost for PK duties and possibly late in games when protecting a lead. I don't see them messing with the Ghost-Hagg pair right now.

If they call up Morin or another defenseman it will be interesting to see if they send one of the spare forwards back down to the AHL. That would be the prevalent move cap wise.

Prevalent? With Leier, Simmonds and Weal banged up it would be prudent to keep 14 forwards for the road trip.

Flyers might avoid a call up unless it's really needed. That would take up cap space that could hurt them with bonus money.
- MJL

They're not going to go on a road trip to Canada on Wednesday with 6 dmen.

I don't think you try to alter any of the pairings at this point. If AMac can play with Provy, so can Manning. You fit him into the slot for a couple of games, and if things go sour, you can always recall Morin and try to mix the pairings.

- boxcar65

No

I'm no Amac fan, but Manning isn't even in the same tier as him. Manning on the top pair is the last thing I want to see this year.

No need to, the Flyers don't have (and have never ever had) cap issues.

Yeah, i feel so bad for a guy who is paid millions of dollars to play a game.

Poor guy.

Yes must be awesome to have every moment in your life dictated for you. What you eat, what you do with your free time not to mention being away from you family for half a year. Also what they get is much lower than what we see. Once you account for their escrow, income tax, agent fees and cost of livving fees they lose a substantial chunk of money

For example a player making 1 mill would pay 18% to the NHL in Escrow(180,000)

Next comes income tax. Having paid escrow, the player is now taxed at a rate of around 50 per cent on $820,000, depending on where the player lives in Canada. A player in Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa pays the government $410,000.

Players pay their agents between three and six per cent depending on the amount of services provided by the agent. The agent’s fee is calculated after escrow is paid. If a player pays his agent four per cent of $850,000 (after escrow) it would be $34,000.

players will spend around $70,000 a year for hockey-related expenses – things such as agent fees, personal trainer, disability insurance, trainer tips, supplements, workout equipment, etc.

It is estimated players need to budget $50,000 for rent and utilities assuming one can get a 10-month lease. A young player who takes on a roommate to split costs, it could be less than $50,000. If you are an older guy renting a house in New York or California it will be closer to $100,000
.
I know guys who are renting in Chicago or New York for $15,000 a month

For basic living expenses (food, clothing etc.) $3,000 a month and budgets another $3,000 a month for miscellaneous expenses (entertainment, gifts etc.). That works out to a combined $72,000. Also $25,000 a year for car expenses which includes monthly payments and insurance.

At the end of the day the player is left with a net savings of around $240,000.

So is $240,000 a year worth having to spend a lot of your time working out, having to eat based on your job, all the traveling and not being able to sleep in your own bed and putting your body on the line every night and possibly your permanent health?

I don't think they will put two rookies together. In preseason Provorov and Hagg played together multiple times, so that seems like the obvious move to me. Sanheim stays with Gudas, and Morin plays with Ghost like he did in a few preseason games.

You're assuming they call up Morin. Knowing the Flyers, I see an Alt type being called up as the 7D and going with Manning. Because #safe.

The Flyers are so safe that top 6 defense in their most recent game had a 20 year old, a 21 year old, a 22 year old and a 24 year old.

Any reports that the Flyers have ever had cap issues is ridiculous.

The Upshall + pick for Dan Carcillo was purely a hockey move.
Simon Gagne for Matt Waker was purely a hockey move.
Sending down Couturier and Schenn to start the season - you guessed it, purely a hockey move.

No cap issues.

Ever.

I don't think any of those injuries are serious and all could be available to play next game. I stated unless it's needed.

Yes, because they had so many better options, such as AHL defensive stalwart TJ Brennan and injury-riddled Mark Alt.

Can you please tell me again why Manning played opening night over both Sanheim and Morin while both were with the team? Can't be because they felt safer with veteran Manning, they must have felt he was the far superior player to those 2 rookie losers.

FFS dude.

LTIR gives you available space to recall players by the amount you exceed the cap. Say you are $1M under the cap and a $5M player goes on LTIR. That gives you $4M in allowable space short-term, but you bank no space for future roster moves since you are exceeding the cap.

There were plenty of veteran dmen available as free agents if the team wanted to be safe.

Manning getting in a few games ahead of Sanheim at the start of the season was totally overblown.
