Are we still certain it will be Hartman playing with 8 and 88 when 8 returns to the lineup?
- SimpleJack

Speaking of Hartman, who got credit for the second goal last night, Hartman or Toews?

I'd like to see Hayden get a shot. Might not be able to keep up in transition all the time but once that line establishes possession in the o-zone that would be fun to watch. He has shown he can hold the puck down low.

Would of been great if Forsling and DeBrincat could have started year in AHL, but who would replace them? They have made some mistakes sure, but I think they haave been fine. I think this team still needs to get faster.

From the previous blog because I didn't see the new one:

The Blackhawks have assigned Luc Snuggerud to Rockford. He has been injured since the preseason.

In my opinion it's much too early to worry. As long as this team makes progress and is playing their best hockey leading into the playoffs, not much else matters. I'd say especially these first 20-25 games are for the coaching staff to see what they have and what they need.
- Hawks_49

With so many youngsters on defense plus one or more inexperienced forwards, it will take an entire season to minimize turnovers and to react properly automaticly in puck management. The common refrain is that it takes 300 nhl gp to become a solid defenceman. So my hope is that with Samuelson input the entire season + IF Q plays them enough. we play well enough to win the the final stretch of the season. If we are in the hunt at the trade d3adline, i believe that Stan would try very hard to acquire a veteran defenseman. Both Stan and Q job security is much better if they make playoffs.

That being said, due to salary cap and expensive contracts doled out, the only way to improve is to play the kids. Pulling a Pulford means no Cup aspiration, just a team up or down a bit each season and never wins round two if they even get so far.

If you feel redeemed because the Hawks are "playin' the kids," great. But then don't complain when you're watching St. Louis and Minnesota in the second round.

We were also watching the years we played Cullimore, Pisani, O'Donnell, Brunnette and Morrison.

So the way I see it, worse case scenario, its all even this year but next year you got nothing for having played scraps and you either got talented and now experienced youngsters for having played this year, or at least know that you don't and avoid wasting more time with some of them.

I was looking at the rule book and didn't see that detail... basically just says offisides unless defensive team brings puck back into their own zone.
- MnGump

How did Seabs carry the puck in exactly when he was on his butt? Clearly he didn't have control of it.

You know what, I think in a game like last night, the vets made just as many mistakes as the rookies. Kane had some errors and a bad back pass to almost send Minny on a 2-1. Keith mishandled more than once. Seabrook blew it on the controversial 2-1 goal.

James Neal reportedly will be traded before the deadline. Big, physical winger that goes the net, plays on the edge, and can snipe like the best of them.....

So is it John Haymaker or Haymaker Hayden? I realize it was more of a solid right hook but Hookem Hayden just isn't as fun (and sounds too Texas like)

I like when Neal was suggested in the offseason, people were saying he was washed up and wouldn't score. Now he's tearing it up as LV's best forward.

Also noticed Jonathan Toews extended his regular-season points streak to 7 games with that late goal in Hawks' 5-2 loss to Wild on Thursday.

Report by who? The Knights have started off great and Neal is being really pushed as the leader/face of that franchise. They have too many D, not enough forward depth. There is absolutely ZERO chance it is "reported" Neal is being traded. But if it is "being reported" why not share the "report?" and I'll retract my statement. (disclaimer: "Reports" from Billy Bobs Bar-B-Que Hoping Hockey Blog" != report)

Could he be? Yes, but only after they fade out the race and McPhee feels he needs to begin looking at the future. This is totally unrealistic at this time and isn't worth the bandwidth to speculate. But I get your shtick, you're arguably this boards biggest promoter of trading for this guy or that guy whether the player is available / realistic or even if the Hawks need the player.

The Hawks will NOT be trading for a winger. If they trade it will be for Center or Defense. And I don't think they are even close to being in the market. I think they want to see how the team clicks when 8 returns

Apparently, neither do the officials.

From the 2017-2018 Official NHL Rule Book
Rule 83.1 (page 134 of the 229 page PDF):

"If a player legally carries or passes the puck back into his own defending zone while a player of the opposing team is in such defending zone, the off-side shall be ignored and play permitted to continue."

Apparently, it was determined by the morons wearing stripes that Seabrook carried or passed the puck into his zone.

Wonder what the NHL definition of "carry" is? Apparently nothing more than it touching you. Thought "carry" meant you HAD TO HAVE CONTROL of the puck, not have it bounce off you.

(frank)tards.

When Seabs had the puck go off his skate, the MN player was not in the offensive zone.

Post the link. I follow Dreger on twitter, I've seen nothing. Not that I am looking to add to a position of strength to the Hawks, but anyway. Even if he said it, it's still a dumb idea for the Hawks.

Talk to me about a center or a D-man then you're making sense. Not a wing. We have 1 winger (Hayds) on the fourth line that could easily slot up.

Trade for Neal and we still have a questionable defense, lacking depth at center and can't win faceoffs other than 19 MINUS cap space. It would be a dumbass trade on nearly every level. IF we had stud centers and a stacked D and needed a wing then sure it's an idea. And given it's that fool McPhee I imagine the asking price for Neal would be laughable. You honestly think this is a possible trade for the Hawks?

However I highly suggest the Hawks do whatever they have to and get Duchene, and fast!!!

It's not happening. too much money, to high an asking price, and we don't really need a winger.

Duchene is a center. He'd be a great get, but the first comment in your post is probably right. I imagine the Avs will open up a bidding war between CBJ and Pittsburgh just to start. Pitts doesn't have the D resources, CBJ may have them. Add in more teams and the Hawks likely would get bidding out. WHAT Defenseman do the Hawks have that could be a centerpiece of a deal for Dutch? The answer is there are none. I think Dutch makes the Hawks a Cup favorite, but we have ZERO high end D prospects, which is something Sakic has been absolutely demanding, as he should.
