If these habits and bad coaching decisions continue can we sit Hak in the press box ala Ghost?
- Konalover

I think it was an egregious mistake but hopefully he learns from it.

Again, much greater? You guys are acting like if we never challenge that play, we definitely win that game. I am not disagreeing with either of you the challenge was absolutely moronic. I would've never done it, I was yelling at my tv, I was staring at the TV for what seemed like hours after the game in shock and disbelief, as im sure many of you were.

My point, is that even if he didn't challenge, this game wasn't wrapped up. they would've still had a 5 on 3, which very easily could've been converted

- sjk540

Lots of things COULD happen. However, a 5on4 has less chance of converting than a 5 on 3. If you can't understand that, I give up. No where in any of my posts did I claim that winning the game was a SURE THING if Hak doesn't make the challenge.

A lot of folks around here really need to work on reading comprehension.

Numerous posters have labeled Gudas as an offensive defenseman in the past.

Numerous? more like a few, FYI: he's not.

That being said, Gudas is a proven veteran player who has played well in the past for the Flyers. He deserves time and opportunity to raise his game and play better. Premature to call for him to be scratched.

- MJL

It's not premature at all when you have other options. They are carrying 8 D and Gudas is playing poorly, no reason not to sit him for a game.

You're right but when you don't see him fitting into the future of the team and you're looking to bring in a rookie who has similar qualities to gudas when do you pull the plug ? It's not like in the event of injuries we don't still have depth. After all this is not a cup contender this is about the future.

So as much as we want to always blame Hakstoll for everything wrong, I am actually happy with the way this season has started. He seems to have this team flying and each game they have been in.

The look faster and the puck movement looks better. The rookies look like the belong.

He made a bad judgment on the offiside call. It's game 4. He wins that challenge and everyone talks about how gutsy it was. He won't be the last coach to lose a challenge this year.

Right now i think he has the pulse of the club. the team looks so much better then last years team. I think he should get some credit for that.

Our young players have not gotten that benefit. Why should he ? Throw Morin a game or 2 before you send him down or who knows maybe he lives up to our expectation and he never sees the minors again.

Embarrassing stuff.
The Goaltending of Elliot, the phantom home team call on Weise plus additional "manufactured" late game call and the total buffoonery of Head Coach Hakstooge all combined for a brutal loss. I actually feel bad for the majority of the players. They deserved better.

- Hatchet

I seriously thought the pred player stepped on Amac's stick. i hated that call esp in the situation.

2-2 on what could have been a killer opening season road trip isn't bad but because of how they blew that game it feels like it sucks. I'm looking at the positives....after the initial 8 mins or so the Flyers totally matched and at times exceeded the Preds speed. they are a good benchmark. would we have said that last year at any time? Giroux, despite his occasional dumb ass defensive lapses, has looked MUCH faster. Voracek can play much better but yet he still has 6 assists. Ghost looks like Ghost again. Provorov keeps getting better. Sanheim and Hagg have held their own. Patrick with a goal and assist and looks better each game. we have a 4th line that spends most shifts in the offensive zone. the first goal happened because Leier backchecked his ass off, stole the puck, quick transition and Laughton got the puck to Amac. that all happens because of their speed and tenacity.

all i can ask with a roster of 4 rookies, 3 second year guys and 2 third year guys is for them to be in every game like they have been so far.

All true, just a tough way to end the trip though.

I thought the call on Weise was legit. Can't wrap the free arm around an opponent and drag him down. My only gripe was that it could also have been interference on Nashville.

Didn't like the 2nd call.... that was a marginal attacker accidentally steps on the defender's stick and falls down play. It shouldn't have merited making a call that set up a 5-on-3 for two minutes.

- bmeltzer

this. while they have cracked down on a lot of the interference, it still makes me crazy when they hold up a player in on the forecheck.

That was easily one of the most disappointing losses I've ever seen. Just crushing.

My Observations:

- Maybe it's the youth but this team has an attitude and swagger. Even down 3 they were still buzzing and controlling a lot of the game.

- Nice to see Filppula pot 2.

- Love the youth in the lineup.

- This team is so much fast compared to last year. Not just speed but the puck movement getting out of the zone and moving through the neutral zone.

- Elliott struggled. Thought the first hartnell goal was kind of bad and the game winner I thought he was too snug to the short side and gave forsberg the top corner.

- I can't put my finger on it but Gudas just isn't doing it for me. I can't say why. Maybe it's seeing the youth and just want Morin in. Not sure. Not sayin he is bad. Just seeing what all our rookies are doing I almost just would prefer to add one more and let morin play

- J35Bacher

I'm a fan of Gudas but I know what you are saying. I don't think he has played all that well.

As I lay in bed last night, that's all I could think about.... no Neuvy and that challenge. So I agree Bill, those two in particular drove me nuts.

Agreed.

It still boggles my mind that such a seemingly risk-averse coach challenged there at the end.

The penalties leading to the initial 2 man advantage were rather ticky tack, but the veterans need to know better. Weise needs to know he can't be tackling guys like that. I do feel like the pred should have been called for interference too though (4v4 then Amacs penalty doesn't happen).

Elliot was garbage last night.

It seems as though the challenge was an emotional overreaction to the 2 initial calls they didn't agree with. Gotta be better than that. The challenge only makes sense IMO if it was the go-ahead goal.

Yup, he's in his "run all over the ice looking for a hit" mode.

Defensively he's always been like that.

Transition/ozone/nzone game, he's been stellar. So many good short outlet passes, keep ins, zone exits. You take the good with the bad w/ him, just like you would w/ Ghost or Sanheim.

It would be nice to get Morin in the lineup, but not at the cost of Gudas. I don't see who you could take out at the moment. All six guys are playing so well, even AMac.

To be fair, though, that hit on Straka is one of the hardest hits I've ever seen.

Which makes it even more ridiculous that he Did challenge! Still a lot of 5 v 3 pp time to go.

A galactically awful decision whichever spin can be put on it

You're right, awful, terrible, flat out just wrong decision there.
