I doubt the Hawks call up anyone for the reasons you note - Hawks would either need to put someone on IR or send someone down.

I'd be happy if AA moved to the second line, Wingels to the third and move Hayden to fourth line center. Depending on game play, you could swap Hayden and Wingels. I know that AA is the whipping boy but he has proven that he knows how to play with Kane and that familiarity makes Schmaltz's absence a little less painful.

Hayden hasn't played center in years. I know he was drafted as one and listed that way some places but he played wing almost exclusively in college.

I bet Q is just going to move everyone up: Anisimov 2C, Kero 3C, Wingels 4C.

Is Kero back from injury? I was assuming he was still injured but if not then you are probably right about everyone shifting up in lines.

That is exactly what happened.

In the last blog there was conversation amongst posters of Anisimov and whether he should be traded for other needs. What you stated is a reason why Anisimov is critical to the Hawks success this year: center depth. He's been a 2C for the prior two seasons and has chemistry with Kane. So the injury to Schmaltz definitely sucks, but it is very helpful to know Anisimov can play 2C in a pinch.

Yes, all the other centers have to shift up a line but Kero can also hold his own at 3C and Wingels can play either wing or center on the 4th line. That's not to mention Hinostroza, Dauphin, and Kampf down in Rockford if a current roster player has to go on IR.

Just to note, Dauphin is not playing center in Rockford.

Some people just always want to be making a move. Right now is when Stan figures out what he has before making any moves, if they even need one.

I wonder it this is because Crow is from the Montreal area. He would be starting only one of the back-to-back games anyway, so I wonder if he prefers to play against his "hometown" team.

Beat writers are saying it's because he destroys MTL every time they play.

Corey Crawford is 7-0-2 with a .951 save percentage and 1.55 GAA against his hometown #Habs.

Even the best Hawks teams of the past 10 years or so have been famous for getting shut down by a backup or a no-name goalie a few times a season.

Maybe Forsberg has a good game.

also, i think i remember Crawford being bad in Toronto a few times.

leafs are playing loose right now. i think you guys beat us with crawford in net.

likely going to be lots of penalties again tonight. with our PP, leafs aren't the team you throw out your inexperienced backup against; in his first game for you guys none the less.

i think this backfires.

Good test. On the road, back to back. And Crow does well against Montreal. Forsberg will surprise.

Heard Crawford was sleeping with Hawks' wives/girlfriends and was punished by skipping a start. Any truth to this HB made up rumour?. Haha

I'm predicting the highest scoring game in NHL history, 17-16 is the final score.

Keeping an eye on John Hayden this season because in my opinion as Hayden goes the Hawks may go. Watching Brian Bickell's retirement ceremony with highlights of the "Big Man" going to the net or parking right in the goalies grill is exactly what the Hawks envision for Hayden I believe. As you stated in an earlier post regarding the Hawks play the last couple of years, being considered a team that was not hard to play for an opponent, size and grit is exactly what this teams needs so if Hayden can become that type of "power player" as well as Rutta and his size, Wingels is cut out of that "hard to play against" mold and Saad's determination to get to the net is infectious just ask Richard Panik. So far so good, not a sprint it's a marathon, yada yada yada, back to back original sixers' should be fun!!

Not sure why but I keep thinking of Daze when I see Hayden. Maybe it's the size, or the wicked wrister. Or aged mind dwindling back to another time...

First true in test in the sense that Q can't dictate matchups on the road and we will see how the younger, unproven D men respond to a very quick, and talented forward group from Toronto.

Q also gives CC a break so he can start in his hometown of Montreal, so another variable to see how good our back up goalie really is.

Big day in Chicago sports......Mitch's 1st start, Cubs-nats, and hawks-leafs

Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends. Not sure if your holiday follows a similar narrative to ours here in the states, or how it goes down, but enjoy.

I met Daze in a bar in Naperville in 2002 or 2003 when his back was out and he was on IR. I offered to buy him a beer and he declined. he was a mountain of a man.

It was the Wednesday before thanksgiving and the Hawks were playing the SHarks.

Agree. Best for Bowman to be in a holding pattern to see how the lineup shakes out as water starts to find its level for the Hawks and all other teams. Bowman is in a great situation for the first time in a long while with having cap space to work with and early season mojo (yeah, I know, only 2 games so far) which gives tentative confidence that some question marks going into the season may be positively answered which in turn buys him time to fully evaluate where the true holes are and fix them with appropriate solutions later in the year.

Yeah think a little risky throwing For berg in against a scoring machine . Would rather he start against weaker team .
