Q says Schmaltz won't go on the trip to TOR and MTL but hopes to have him back for Thursdays home game against the Wild. Upper body, so not related to the other night. Glad its nothing too serious.

If he’s missing two games - and it looked like it was a hit to the head - it’s serious.

Yep long season. Who rotates into center now?
- kwolf68

If Kero is back, then just shift AA and Kero up one spot and Wingels plays 4C. If not, call up Kampf or Dauphin to go 4C.

If Schmatlz isn't out that long I'd leave Anisimov on Line 3 to build that chemistry with ADB and Sharp because Schmaltz is the rightful 2nd line center. If Schmaltz is out a long time then maybe I think about that move.

Hey guys. How did Panarin do tonight? I haven’t heard his name called once.

Two injuries on two fairly harmless looking plays in two games doesn’t bode well for Schmaltz to last through spring...

Jurco, Viktor Svedberg, Matthew Highmore, and Ville Pokka scored goals in a 4-0 win tonight.

Vinnie played center tonight (so it seems) and had 3 shots. Perhaps he gets called up.

Jurco had 3 points...interesting. Though he's clearly not a center.

Yes you should go watch the replay because it's a dirty cheap shot on a guy 40 lbs lighter who never had, or was even close to touching the puck. Johnson is a wannabe tough guy that targets small forwards. I love a good check but that's trash. The contact was directly to the chin with a high follow through. Would've like to see Bouma take a run and/or fight that wiener afterwards.
- EnzoD

And he left Kane wide open to take the run at Schmaltz. Whether the hit was dirty or not, that's just stupid.

Maybe so. Especially since he plays center. Still think Vinnie may get the call.

1 SOG in 19 minutes for a guy like him who should be quite motivated... Says good things about our defense.

Thought the Hawks did a good job keeping CBJ to the outside. There was a period during the 2nd there that the CBJ cycle game was really controlling some of the play, but other than that period the Hawks Defense was on steady lockdown. NO D-man played poorly tonight. Kempny had a struggle or two, but that happens to the best of them. He and Murphy were solid, but its clear Q early on is trusting Ruuta and Gus more. Which is amazing to me.

I agree. It was very questionable to begin with that he didn't even make the team, but I understand why he didn't.

ADB has done a lot of little things. He hasn't gotten blown away on board battles, has played with an edge, done some little things and has just missed a couple goals early. It's coming for him.

Artemi Panarin on what was said between he and Patrick Kane at center ice during warmups: “He said ‘I miss you’ and I said ‘I miss you too.’

I think Kaner really like Panarin as a person. Wish things could have been different, but Stan made a tough choice, that I think is the right one. I do hope Little Artie does great in Ohio. I really do.

Got to be careful with Hinostroza call-ups, though. He becomes waiver eligible in 23 games. Won't happen now hopefully with Schmaltz injury being not serious but still.

Schmaltz - been saying it all along - going to have issues playing in the top six. Have to be tough tough tough playing 1C or 2C in this league. Time will tell....

While these first two games (emphasis on two games) have been encouraging, lets temper the enthusiasm with sone reality:

1. Both opponents caught off of games the night before.
2. The Hawks have a new look, so old game plans from opponents don't apply
3. CBJ found a weakness tonight - durability of young players (Schmaltz)
4. With Schmaltz out after game two, what is the plan now?
5. The D looks much better than last year's group. Experience in Rutta and Kempny paying dividends.

I am as hopeful as anyone else that these young guys sack up and stick on the roster, but I reserve my judgment until they have 10-20 games behind them.

Officiating needs to be stronger on head shots. Two things refs can't F up on - goals and acts of intent to injure. Replay helps on the first one.

Re Schmaltz...It's just fluky. The leg thing Thursday could happen to anyone and he was a victim of a jackass tonight. He will be fine. If healthy he's a legit 2nd line center. You see how pedestrian Anisimov is, it's clear he belongs on third line. TONS of smaller guys in the NHL playing top 6. Don't sweat it, EVERY team goes through this. Remember all the injury problems Crosby had? No one questioned if he could handle top 6 (yea I know he's stockier)...Just happens sometimes.

Love your #2...

Potential concussions have nothing to do with toughness, though - they can happen to literally anyone with a brain. Some of the best top centers in the league have had a concussion or more like Toews, Crosby, Bergeron, Backstrom, Getzlaf, Giroux, Seguin... It might be easier to name a top center that hasn't missed time for concussion symptoms. Schmaltz came back out to play and was called back in by the trainers so he obviously wanted to play but was stopped.

The leg thing obviously wasn't as big a deal as we initially thought since Q immediately said Schmaltz would play and he was practicing just fine the next day. Even if they discovered he was fine two minutes after they got him to the back room, there was no reason for him to return to a blow-out game like that.

Just saw the hit. Completely unnecessary. Puck was NOWHERE NEAR Nick. The fact is Nick wasn't really expecting a hit like that nor should he have. I think those type of hits should warrant a major penalty at least. Completely unnecessary hit . Glad Wingles lit that punk up.
