It will be interesting to see how the Hawks fare against a team that mucks up the neutral zone to try and force dump and chase.

Pens didn't even bother to show up at the rink yesterday, but it was still fun to watch the Hawks take it to them.

Get your popcorn ready for Oilers v. Hawks games. They will be everything that modern NHL hockey should be. Skill and speed. Take notes NHL brass.

Vinnie + top prospect or maybe Vinnie + #1? Where the hell would he play though? Fourth line center? LOL...if we got Athinasiou while NOT giving up anyone on the current roster the rest of the NHL would probably forfeit.

I'm thinking AA for AA. Anisimov is older, slower, and more expensive and to get younger, faster, and stay at the highest level of competing with the up and here Edmonton Oilers, I'd rather have Atanasiou over Anisimov.....that's our 3rd line Center.... PLUS..... we would have MORE cap money to deal for another dman if needed....... though I'm not sure Detroit would be willing or able to take on Anisimov's cap hit. Stan is in a position of power for once and just because we slaughtered Pitt last night, there's always room for improvement when you can add size, speed, youth, and save money.

I fear what we would lose defensively if we made that trade. Athanasiou is not a strong 2-way guy.

Loved everything about the game last night. To my eye, I think ADB could have easily been replaced with Dauphin or Wingels. I think the ADB love-fest from Q and the brass is puffed up so that they can use him as trade bait

Like they did with Dano?

Not sure that is in their strategery manual. Not that I wouldn't mind if it was.

Tough game for Hammer last night. -2 for the game, on the ice for ANA 1st 2 goals, both by Perry. AZ blew a lead to ANA 5-4.

On #1, he made a weak stick check attempt and Perry scored from the left circle.
On #2, he lost his guy along the goal line, and that allowed the pass across to Perry in the crease, which he jammed in.

I noticed that. I think Hammer is just not happy there right now. While the Coyotes are improving they have no shot at a deep run this year. He is at the stage of his career where he wants to be making those deep runs. He'll sort it out and be a good player for them.

New team, and a considerably less talented one. There will be growing pains for him.

Your list of why you want Athanasiou over Anisimov is why the Wings wouldn't ever do the deal. They're looking to get younger and shed money.

On top of that, I think you're downplaying what losing Anisimov would mean. Q is not going to be throwing Kero out against high QOC like he did Kruger or Bolland. If Schmaltz falters at all with facing top QOC or they want to rest Toews/Schmaltz against the top lines, Q is going to need the option of having a good defensive center to man a line that can take that duty. Athanasiou isn't going to be able to do that.

It was one game.... the first one of the season. Don't overestimate it's value.
- BINGO!

Right. See how those D pairings look under a serious, physical forecheck. That will be a key test. If they can keep that speed game going like last night though the D should have space.

Not a chance! They got rid of him to get younger and faster on the D. They aren't suddenly going to reverse that thinking...

Good point, the Hawks never bring back guys they've traded away or lost to free agency.

Sorry but Hinestroza is not in the same area code as Andreas Athanasiou...... and I really like Vinnie.

Thinking of Athanasious's speed added to this lineup at the right cost and cap hit.... Scary.

Detroit is having a tough tie fitting Atanasiou under their cap which is one of the reasons they are playing hardball with him. No way do they double that cap hit by adding Anisimov.

Anisimov would be too much. The Wings are in rebuild mode. Give them a pick and prospect.... as long as Athanasiou takes the right cap hit. I think he might take a bridge deal if it means getting time with Kane for a few years. His next contract will make up for it and this whole maneuver is really him wanting away from Blashill.

Boy that Panarin trade looks better every game night.

That was a lot of razzle dazzle. Good to see Schmaltz stepping right up. Bring on the Jackets!

So again......... assume we're playing Edmonton in the WC Finals. You would be satisfied with Anisimov being our 3rd Line shut down defensive center against McDavid ? Probably not....... he certainly no David Bolland defensively.... therefore... it would have to be Toews playing against McDavid and I'm really not sure how that would pan out for us. Love JT but McDavid's speed is the best in the world and I'd rather have 19 playing offensive hockey on that 1st line in that playoff situation. As for Athanasiou's defensive skills, that's something that definitely can be taught if that is his primary focus and our game plan against McDavid. Shutting him down or at least limiting his creative space with our own speedy center would make it tough on Edmonton to beat us.

Good point..... thanks for the update on their cap situation.
I'd just say DEFINITELY NO to Schmaltz in any way shape or form if that is who the Wings would want. NO WAY !!

remember when everybody was upset we did not take Fabri or Kapanen. I did forget Pastrnick was taken after NS. he would be the only one I would trade. Might only be 5 guys above NS I would swap him for. And none of them make $925K this year and next!! Is it to early to extend Rutta? next year the notables for new contracts are Hartman and Hayden (RFA) Kempny and Rutta UFA. We should have about 5 mil to work with. Be nice to get at least a couple guys a little longer term
