Like it or not, it's still an old boys club, some connection, mentoring, acceptance needs to be there or you end up with another Mike Gillis who never found his way with his peers. - VanHockeyGuy
All of those guys have been in NHL front offices for years. |

Amateur scouting, his pro scouting has been terrible. |

Demoting him is not how it works in the real world. But if your beef is his contract and cap handling then bring in a guru for that.
Doesn't have to be an NHL guy. Any Lawyer/Accountant will do. Even someone who has a sports agency or financial services background.
But make them a VP to overule or be in charge of what JB comes up with instead of an AGM that can be brushed aside like Gillman. Plus as VP they don't have to get involved with player side of ops just logistics. - Nuck4U
It's not just his contracts/cap. He bleeds assets and overpays in trades too. I know it doesn't work like that, but other teams have moved around front office people before.
Agree with the VP idea, that makes a lot of sense. Saves face for Benning too since it wouldn't be a demotion for him. But I wouldn't hire an accountant/lawyer type, I'd hire a guy like the list I mentioned. Someone who can actually run the team. |

Probably the best move for him. |

Comets must be struggling to find playing time for everybody.
Hope he ends up playing with Peterson to see if any chemistry at higher level can be established and maintained. |

Linden should step aside, have someone come in who can reign in all the nonsense. He is a PR guy at best, not the details oriented guy who can plan ahead |

Just unbelievable how he went from selling glasses and running gyms to running a NHL team overnight. |

Why do you think that? I dont have a strong opinion on it, but didnt think the team needed to keep Pettersson/Dahlen together for chemistry purposes. North American ice and playing with future teammates were the larger benefits to staying |

Right? It was very opportunistic of him, but not like he was innovative or navigated a difficult business sector. He threw his name/brand on a couple things and made decent money, totally different than his current job |

That's fine if they can get somome competent and capable to run things on both sides. It would also be be best for Linden too. The VP type would help JB in trades in asset management where JB would narrow in on team needs and evaluation.
TL could stay as figure head and public face for team to community. Then leave all the details to a serious operator who knows what he's doing. I think TL wants that as well so he can have more time for his child. |

He had some knowledge of inner NHL workings being Union President and settling the lockout. It was something that helped along with being a former player. |

Demote to assistant GM, let him run the draft, scout for the draft and also scout the AHL for prospects to trade for. - Nucker101

That's a fast development from JB saying going he's on IR because of mono.
I knew his season was in jeopardy from the day I heard about diagnosis. Back to Sweden the cure.
Even past the cleared not contagious stage where he joined practice it's not the same. The body usually takes months to fully recover to compete at that high level. You are already behind others in training and timing as well having missed camp and ore-season etc.
Anyway that logjam they got there plus Comets signing another forward that Cull likes probably tipped things. Wonder if they need him to slide contract over as well to make room for DA signing? |

Utica also has a crowded roster. Dahlen has to regain some strength/weight/muscle and the jump would have already been tough with smaller ice ans tougher competition. I think its a smart move |

Right. That conversation Cull had with JB about roster had Dahlen as first easy decision. They also like Boucher playing with Goldy as they used to play together in Sarnia.
I guess having Rodin is enough for player adjustments of the Dahlen type. Wonder what plans are there for both of them.
But you see they added a forward, AHL contract, Cull liked to the crowded roster. So more moves needed. Especially for vet logjam. |

Yeah, but my counter point would be that Benning was brought in with the rep of being a good drafter so as a fan it would make sense to me if they built a strategy around that strength and acquired as many extra picks as possible. Doing the opposite would probably have me questioning the direction of the team. - Nucker101
Looks like that can of worms got opened after |

For me "some knowledge" isnt good enough for the position of President. The ship is under your direction at that point and would've felt better if he had shadowed the front office for at least a year before getting the job |

He's better then Sakic. I'm not that upset in the job that he's done. Linden knows his limitations and works within them. Easy target to hate but never given any props. Keep him. |
