Kings will be honoring Christiana Duarte before the game too. She worked for the organization and was killed in Vegas.
 - YuenglingJagr
I just can't imagine being there. Just going out to a concert to have some fun and some lunatic decides to just kill random people. I just don't get it.
On a related note, a reporter was asking MAF if he thought that sports could be a beacon of joy/a distraction after what happened, and MAF said hopefully it can be a distraction but that, in light of what happened, sports aren't gonna do much for all of the people affected. |

Nailed it!
Though if you could trade him for McJeebus I would possibly do that..lol - opeth_pa
Well yes, if you're going to trade him for a better player then yes. But the total package that Simmonds brings is rare in the league right now, so it would have to be a package that makes the Flyers better in the present and future for me to trade him. |

You're assuming that those doing the complaining actually know what they are looking at and that their criticism is always legit.
Perfect example. Can you think of any legitimate reason why a coach would change his PP personnel late in a game with under two minutes left and a one goal lead? - MJL
Did you wa...
No we already established that you did not watch the game.
1-I am not assuming anything. I am saying that people are going to have opinions, and when the vast majority of the opinion is the same its usually for a reason. Sometimes the criticism is overblown, and sometimes the denial to that criticism is equally unwarranted.
2- Gudas was bad. Manning was really bad.
Winning the game with less than two minutes to go.. why put a guy who struggled all night out there? He promply takes a boarding penatly and puts the Flyers at a disadvantage.
I get having a defensive player out there.. so put out Provorov and let him finish the final 2 minutes.
Prior to that our PP was (i believe) 3/4. Not only were they 3/4 but they were very good at keeping the zone. The best way to not lose the game is to not give up the puck. Gudas and Manning were pretty much the worst at that last night. |

MAF has always seemed like a good egg.
I had friends in Vegas last weekend who went on the spur of the moment. They weren't near the concert, but were quite aware when it was happening. Very frightening.

In my personal defense, I made a good/bad/ugly list yesterday. I had Manning in ugly and MacDonald and Gudas in bad.
Had about 7 items in good.
I'm thrilled they won. My only gripes last night were the subpar play of Manning. He was very bad. MacDonald was exactly what he's been for the last 3 years. Okay except for a few shifts where he was bad.
On the flip side, to succintly put it: Konecny, G, Jake, Coots, Weal, Provy all had good games. Elliot bounced back for 2 good periods after a pedestrian 1st. 4th line was phenomenal. Team was faster as a whole by a long shot.
I really believe Morin is the better play though and that's why I harp on Manning. I thought VdV was bad but I didn't sharpen the pitchforks because his replacement was marginally better. I'm sharpening the pitchforks now because Morin in my eyes is an upgrade, through and through, over Manning.
End of the day though the team played well, faster, and assertive on O as a whole and got good goaltending. That's a huge step in the right direction, Manning notwithstanding. |

Seriously, why do you have to be such a Richard? You continually put people down here in such a subtle way, its almost beautiful.
If the people posting here are so dumb, why do you continually come here? Why waste your precious time with us imbeciles?
Keep in mind you are the one who has managed to get banned here multiple times over the years. |

I've seen Gudas play well before, though.
Manning has struggled at times even when he was right physically, and if I'm not mistaken, he's coming off of back surgery.
I think with Morin's reach and size, he provides a unique skill set that the team doesn't have.

Yeah. It was terrible.
I am not sure Vegas needs a distraction, but it is very cool to see the team so involved in the community. Fleury is right |

I wasnt arguing for or against them being in the lineup.
Both played poorly last night. Both took bad penalties. Both were terrible from a possession stand point. |

I'll say this: I would have preferred Morin out late on that PP (with his reach, as noted) over Manning of Gudas. Now, given that Morin wasn't available, I would probably have gone with Provy and AMac out there at that time.
But what do I know, I only watched the entire game. |

I understand that SJ was going to pull the goalie to create a 5v5 situation and the Flyers wanted a defensive player to help out but yeah, this decision was a bit baffling at the same time. - jmatchett383
I understand the thinking behind it but I don't agree with it at all. You watched them out there they were completely out of sync. That's the kind of situation where you'll get a short handed goal against because you have a guy in there you don't ever practice entries with. I don't care what his position is. It's a play it safe move that is prone to backfiring more than not. |

Exactly. I understand tweaking the unit to have 2 Dmen on the ice, but why not just put Provorov and AMac out there? At least they are a regular pairing. |

Your Honor, my client, Mr. YuenglingJagr, (side bar: say that three times fast, amiright judge?lol) was merely responding to the plaintiff's post where he admitted to being a fan of the red-headed stepchild hockey team in western Pennsylvania. The plaintiff has also proudly admitted to wearing said team's jersey. |

Exactly. Yes, he's overpaid, but nothing will change that now. He'll never play up to his salary, but he can be a serviceable NHL defenseman. Now, the fact the he's deployed on the top pair is a different matter entirely. - jmatchett383
We all know MacDonald doesn't belong on a top pairing but that's just a question of available talent. They could move Gudas up to that spot but that would weaken a lower pairing. Right now based on the personnel available, MacDonald is one of the best choices for that spot next to Provorov until the young defenseman are either thrown to the wolves or gain more experience to gain the trust of the coaching staff to play in that spot.

I think what happened was Hakstol knew, correctly, that Thornton was gonna be out there down low and he didn't want AMac to be in a position to get overpowered
Gudas just is stronger, physically. Thornton was a problem all freaking night. I understood it. Gudas just can't take the freaking penalty he did |

My observations:
- Team looked noticeably faster.
- Defense looked to be more involved in the offensive and neutral zone. Didn't seem to retreat right away and tried to pressure earlier.
- Konecny is going to have a good year. Seemed to have a solid chance every shift.
- PK looks nice. i know they got 2 goals but man they look a lot better last night.
- Hope to see Morin or Sanheim in tonight. I am not going to trash MacDonald or Manning but the game is a speed and skill game. Those two bring greater skills then MacDonald or Manning do.
- Elliot was solid. Nothing spectacular but nothing where I was worried like last year. Felt he could stop everything.
- Top line looked good. Giroux looks to have more room and time on the wing.
- We have a 4th line. They were buzzing. - J35Bacher
Elliot flopped around a lot last night. Roman Cuckmanek was brought up last night. Great comparison.
