I do, too, but I also think that even the lineup they iced last night is better than last year and isn't the second coming of the Titanic. - Scoob

I'm waiting on the details of how bad Manning, MacDonald, and Wiese were last night. - MJL
I am certain that some here were secretly hoping they would lose big last night. |

It is improved. I think most have said that it was. Same thing as last year though...why shouldn't the lineup be better if it can be? |

As I'm not part of the decision making team I can't answer why they chose the lineup they did. |

Bill's post game breakdown
the stat sheet as per NHL.com
the beat coverage in both Philly and CA
observations from multiple friends who actually watched the whole game
bits and pieces I saw from my DVR of the game before I had to leave for work this morning. - BiggE
All pretty accurate.
Mac had one really bad shift that stood out. Had the puck in the O-zone and held on too long before forcing a pass to, im still not sure, which resulted in a turnover. Then once in the defensive end he ended up on his belly below the net while his guy got free in the slot so Mac did Mac and cross checked him taking a penalty.
Aside from that he was fine. Had a couple of solid plays where he stepped up on guys at the blue line instead of backing in. I was excited about that actually.
Manning and Gudas pairing was a nightmare all night IMO. Bad penalties, scatter coverage, bad reads, odd man rushes.. It was bad. It seemed when ever SJ had extended O pressure those two were out there..
Weise should never be out on the PK IMO. Aside from that he was okay. Drew one (maybe two) penalties and played okay. He is not a third line winger but whatever. |

So much faster and quicker...man, I liked Mark Streit over his Flyers tenure, but last night showed the difference in roster spots that cannot move as well vs. players who can
They don't have to be young. But you have got to be able to move

To be effective, Ghost is gonna have to take risks. But yes, him getting caught deep indirectly led to a goal (the first one, I believe). You know you're going to have to take the good with the bad.
I'm not going to slam him, but either of the rookies, based on preseason and last night, would be better than Manning. AMac was solid, but Manning was pretty bad last night. Not abysmal, but not very good, either. - jmatchett383
Not all risks are created equal. There are good risks and ill advised risks. That comes with experience and time. |

Provorov is ridiculous. The subtle body positioning and stick work is phenomenal. He won't get the point totals of other dmen because of Ghost play the first PP unit, but I sure hope he gets the accolades nationally he will earn by his play. |

Glad someone mentioned gudas in the manning combination. I thought that pairing was inconsistent at best. Gudas reverted back to chasing the contact and getting himself out of position. Manning was his usual average at everything self. I actually would like to see hagg with gudas and Morin with gost. I think hagg might settle gudas game down more so than Morin.
Nobody will mention it cause Jake had a good point game but he was back to his horrible cross ice passes he should never try to make last night. I think I counted 4 of them.
G gost both got their legs back and it was fantastic to watch. Also as much as I've watched leier I never saw him move quite like last night it's like he knew he had to raise his game. Loved it.

Nice win last night!
Still want to see Morin in the lineup, but whatever the reasons were to have both Manning and AMac in the lineup at the same time, it worked out last night.
In the highlights I saw, Couturier looked real good. |

I think that will come, big time, once they start winning and get into the playoffs. He had 30 points last year and almost all of it (25) was at ES. I don't think it would be a stretch this season if he increased his ES total to 35 and, with a much improved 2nd unit, his pp total to 12. Throw in an assist or 2 on a shorty and I can see him finishing with a stat line of:
10/39/49 and a plus/minus rating somewhere between +15 to +20.
If he does that, he will start get mentioned as one of the top Dmen in the NHL very quickly.

yeah that was a late one, but hockey is back
keeping in mind it was game 1 and you expect it to be sloppy.
1st line looks good. Hagg was obviously nerovus, Ghost was good but I think he needs Morin besides him in the D Zone. MacDuck made some bad passes, but it was game 1.
Penalties really broke up the flow of the game. I say that because I really like the 2nd line but it would have been nice to see consistent shifts. 4th line was really good, I wouldnt change a thing. Now to the 3rd line. Half way through the game, I wanted Flip benched and I am a Flip fan, he did look better in the second half, I hope he was just getting his legs. Weise? I was hopeful, but WOW, by far the worse player on the ice. That give away at the end of the period was terrible, add in he just looks out of place and has hands of stone. I would rather see Lahtera, at least he can pass. On TK, o poor TK, he really is flying, yeah he took a bad penalty but with his linemates he is left to create his own chances. TK is to good, get him some skill players ASAP. I think Flip could be ok but TK needs a complete upgrade on the other wing. Weise at best is a 4th line player |

Wow
"The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they have signed defenseman, Josh Manson, to a four-year contract extension. The new deal, which kicks in next year, will have an AAV of $4.1 million."
That seems like a lot, to me. He looked good in the playoffs, but wow. |

Oh yeah
Just one time. Hakstol pls
It's not like a Vandevelde moment where his replacement is also mediocre. Manning being bad with Morin looking on makes my teeh itch for reasons we all understand. |
