Philadelphia Flyers
2016-17 record: 39-33-10
What’s bad: They won two championships 40 years ago through felony assault and still haven’t adjusted to today’s game where attempted murders are mostly frowned upon. The Flyers are no longer that thuggish team—last year’s team was the third-least penalized in franchise history—but they also don’t have much in the way of talent. Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek combined to earn $17 million and score 34 goals. Shayne Gostisbehere is their one fun player and their TV newsman haircut of a coach spent last season trying to beat that creativity out of him with repeated benchings while Andrew MacDonald—arguably the worst defenseman/contract combo in the league—plays 20 minutes a night. This team deserves all the disappointment it gets.

Ha, well that was my comparison since Pierre is currently on the "A crew" for playoff games. I'm hoping that as soon as Doc retires, (which I hope is soon, the guy is awful) that they bring a new crew in for play by play, color, and inside the glass. - pinkfloydfreak
I thought the play by play guy (forsland?) with Boosh last night was great
id be happy if he replaced doc asap |

I'm waiting on the details of how bad Manning, MacDonald, and Wiese were last night. - MJL
Manning had at least three bad shifts in the first and was getting outplayed when he took the penalty. I thought he struggled all night.
MacDonald played OK and was in the wrong spot at the wrong time on the carom goal. I didn't think he looked great.
Weise played fine except for the PK giveaway. He had plenty of time to make a good clear there but I blame Hakstol for having him out there. Since when is Weise one of your top PK guys when the Flyers hadn't been on the PK yet all night?
I thought the Flyers rolled last night. They were opportunistic and made shots. SJ's goals were lucky bounces. I thought the Flyers looked very good last night. |

That's not true. Ghost's first scratch came in a win over the Jets, but he played the next game. - Feanor
Is there any other examples? I don't remember any, and once makes it a pretty rare occurrence. |

Why would Doc retire before he drops dead? Easiest gig in sports besides backup qb and big dollars.
Won’t happen until he falls over. Pierre is here to stay as well for the same reasons. Once you get those types of jobs you stick around until the cold icy grip of death. - StepfordSam
As far as Doc retiring, I think it's possible. He's had his schedule scaled back a bit the last 2 years compared to what it used to be.
As far as Pierre, I wouldn't expect him to be let go entirely, but I think it is a realistic possibility that NBC would want to bring in an entire new crew as the primary go-to crew for games once there is a change in whoever does play by play. And maybe Pierre would be doing a primetime playoff game on one of the other channels or a west coast time zone game. It's not like there haven't been all kinds of changes in studio crews over the years. Roenick's role has been ever changing. Clement has been in and out of national work in different roles ever since they disbanded Clement Hull Ferraro Roenick as the studio crew for big national games.

I just hate the mix with both sitting. The top pair is what it is. The mix of the other pairings bugs me. Even if morin and sanheim still sit I think i would still rather see this:
Provorov - MacDonald
Hagg - Gudas
Manning - Gostisbehere - J35Bacher
I dont like Hagg with Ghost, Hagg is very calm, Ghost needs an aggressive partner in the d zone. Manning would be better but really it should be Morin

I think most play by play guys I've heard in any national broadcast are better than Doc personally. My favorite is Kenny Albert, and I thought Joe Beninati was great. I'm not sure I've heard Beninati do any national broadcasts the last few seasons though. Maybe he wasn't the caps full-time play by play guy back when he'd be on Vs a lot. |

https://deadspin.com/ever...season-preview-1818851595
I posted that deadspin article yesterday, it's pretty hilarious. Florida was probably my favorite:
You know how in movies, the nerdy teen plots revenge against the jocks that tortured him? In Florida, the jock (Dale Tallon) has exacted revenge against the nerds (the stat-heads who built last year’s team) by firing, trading, or not re-signing everyone who was part of the math regime. That includes beautiful elderly angel Jaromir Jagr, who wasn’t brought back despite perfectly good numbers and remains unsigned. The old regime also fired coach Gerard Gallant midseason by pushing him out of a moving bus in North Carolina. Owner Vinnie Viola almost became Secretary of the Army but had to withdraw due to having history’s most fake-sounding mafia name. Just kidding, it was actually for punching a guy at a horse auction. Contract this franchise.
And this highlight for the Sharks:
Even if they are leading the race for the Presidents’ Trophy in March, you just know one of their three best players is rupturing something in a play involving Dustin Brown. The Sharks are your friend’s can’t-miss blackjack strategy that leaves you broke and devastated. |

Weise asserted himself offensively with all 0 shots on goal - YuenglingJagr
He set up Konecny in the slot twice in the third period.
That being said, he was awful in the first 2 periods. |

It amazes me how so many people don't venture outside of the Philly media. I mean, for the people who think Flyers management can do no wrong, they won't like what they hear anyways. |
