They passed on Pokka and they have Barrie and they also too a 6'3 Dman yesterday
- VANTEL

The Sedins didn't want any of them.

May be true, but look what you've been watching. In comparison, a hummingbird would look slow and indecisive compared to some Pitts players.

I think you and I are working towards two different benchmarks.

Lol. Possibly.

Horvat seemed to play ok with Dorsett in his first year.

Dude, he didn't give up the 4th, he just tossed it in there.
I'm so tired of him deciding to throw picks into the trades. Losing that 4th is going to set this franchise back, big time.

Calgary could use a little cowbell, or the Leafs with the mighty Babcock might like your support.

I was all for him going as the 3rd C and hopefully still available for us but I admit I flip flopped to Glass after "Chin Upgate"... but still had him at 4th C. It didnt take long for me to flip back to him as regret now.

It makes little sense to me. He has all the skill that Peterssen has, the foot speed is comparable, but he is already a size that we pretty much know Peterssen will never reach and at best we are realisticly expecting borderline NHL size out of him... that would be an achievement. Casey was not just a safer pick, the better version of what they were targeting. I don't buy "we drafted for potential". Mittlestadt has that in spades as well.

It's a very average roster but when you look where everyone was picked in the draft most are 1st rounders, many top tens, and a few top threes. Amazing to think how difficult it must be to crack a NHL roster being a late pick.

Keeping our prospects in the AHL and developing is more important to me than what our roster looks like. Our future isn't now. Can't wait for the Sedins to retire and fast forward a year

Hopefully TG rotates Burmi, Dorsett and Virt in and out of the lineup. Each guy plays 2 straight then sits 1 if everyone is healthy.

I would prefer Burm over Dorsett, but we all know vets are more important than better players with more upside sometimes.

The problem is, I don't think our toys are all that shinny. But they are shinny to us so I guess that counts for something.

Sutter said he embraces the role of playing 4th line center if it means Travis Green trusts him to play a shut down role. I will try and link the article.

The toys need to be polished a little more before they are ready.

I didnt see enough of the prospects to hold a strong opinion, but I do have a soft spot for NCAA players. Before the combine I was pretty high on him in the 5-8 range, he had a Kessel-like vibe for me

Burke and Lamoriello, the two most coveted GM's in the history of hockey? If either team did "just throw picks away" it's because they are masterful strategist that have pre-knowledge that the picks are going to be crap.

it's not the fact that Benning added a 4th round pick to the deal to get Pouliot, or that he spent a 3rd acquiring Pedan. One 3rd round or One 4th round pick isn't the end of the world, the problem is how many he has dealt, rather than acquired, during a "rebuild/retool" process where we have had the worst prospect pool for a very long duration, that is what is concerning.

Jason Garrison for a 2nd (great move)
3rd round pick for Dorsett (has been a good pick dealt)
Kesler and a 3rd for Bonino, Sbisa, 1st and 3rd (well..)
2nd round pick for Vey (we know)
Mallet and a 3rd for Pedan (we know)
Forsling for Glendening (still makes me sad)
2nd round pick for Baer (great great trade)
Eddie Lack for a 3rd and a 7th (unreal trade, love to see this, both because of lack and picks)
Kassian and a 5th for Prust (we know)
Bonino, Clendening, 2nd for Sutter and a 3rd (we know)
Jensen and a 7th for Etem (we know)
Shinkaruk for Granlund (great great trade)
5th for Philip Larsen (we know)
McCann + 2nd + 4th for Gudbranson and a 5th.

Losing 1 3rd or 1 4th round pick is not a big deal, but losing picks from rounds 2-7 start to become significant when they routinely become part of these hockey trades. I am a big advocate of Benning drafting, especially after his latest draft, which I believe he could have potentially snagged value at nearly all picks made. I just wish, at this stage in the game for the Canucks, that he was acquiring picks instead of dealing them. I really hope Benning makes me eat my words though.
