Thanks Carol, I have always valued your opinions and analysis of talent over any other poster on these boards.

I certainly didn't think Pedan would ever make the Canucks full time, and we get to see if Pouliot will ever pan out.

Oh and let's not forget that coveted 4th round Benning gave up.

Fire JB, hire HB drama queen.

I'm with Lefty on this, I like the trade.

Pouliot could barely crack the PIT defensive roster last year and they were pretty thin, even after Letang went down. Its a very similar situation to Pedan.

Essentially, we paid a 3rd and a 4th for Pouliot.

No that’s not it at all. We traded a 4th for Pouliot. “Sunk cost.” As Vantage pointed out this is first year economics

We have finally got the last piece for the Kesler for Pulliot Sutter or Bonino trade.

Probably could have just claimed Pulliot in a couple of hours for free but what is the point of a Canuck transistion without giving up a pick?

Could be low risk high reward but probably will be another Linden Vey type deal.

we paid a 4th, and threw in a non roster contract in Pedan, so that we would ensure that COL/LV did not scoop Pouilot on waivers before we had a chance to.

Pedan's ceiling was as an average 5/6 stay at home physical defender. Pouliot's upside is as a great 3/4 if he can figure out the dzone stuff.

The knock seems to be he wasn't willing to put the work in. Given what we have seen happen with Virtanen last year, I'm hoping TG can get into his head.

I'm not sure why these correlations need to be made, but I'll make one that seems just as asinine to me...

Essentially, we paid a 3rd and 4th for a 1st (8thOA).
If they are all crap then why try to dramatize that Canucks gave up the better package.

Not grabbing Pokka on waivers, but then trading for Pouliot is... a little odd though.

- VANTEL

It’s not odd at all. They value Pouliot over Pokka

May be true, but look what you've been watching. In comparison, a hummingbird would look slow and indecisive compared to some Pitts players.

I think you and I are working towards two different benchmarks.

I'm willing to bet that report was written years and years ago

I can remember when Don and I argued about a prospects weight and he was posting up old reports that hadn't been updated but wouldn't acknowledge the updated ones...

I'm going to start using that logic and tell people I'm only 180 pounds.

I'm finally optimistic about Don's optimism and then you go and post the above.

So sending Weircioch down because Biega is a right shot? I can't really think of another reason, don't imagine either one would get claimed.

Wiercoch is on a two-way, Biega on a 1-way.

I don't think so, 1 year league min $650k isn't it? Either way, there are zero cap ramifications of either being sent down.

I bet it's Biega at the end of the day.

I see the point in keeping Biega as the 7th/8th. Who would you rather sitting in the press box, a 29 year old player who isn't really a prospect, or an actual prospect who will be wasting away eating popcorn instead of playing decent minutes in Utica

Just watched and he did say Green likes to play dmen to their handedness. Amazing how Biega manages to keep sticking around in the NHL, testament to working hard on a weak team I guess

I see. He will have to be on the roster today at 2, and then placed on waivers after that.

Are you suggesting that Wiercioch is a prospect????

Pouliot would require waivers, is an RFA at the end of the year, and they just traded a pick for him, there's no way they try and send him to Utica.

At the end of the day, while I hate the idea of giving up any picks, or adding in any picks for players that have "potential", having players that are more or less established and cheap, and recognizing who our prospects+core are moving forward, and developing them properly in the AHL is EXACTLY what this franchise has needed for longer than I can remember. Do Boeser and Virtanen deserve to make the team? Aboslutely. Will 1 year down in Utica hurt them from a development stand point? Absolutely not. Boeser and Virtanen both played the least amount of minutes in the last preseason game against EDM. From here on out though. Benning really needs to acquire picks from these players signed to 1 year UFA deals, let the Canucks become exciting next summer when the Sedins retire and jobs REALLY become available
