He can get a 2nd or 3rd near the TDL, those picks matter more. - LeftCoaster
for Pouliout, or in general?

Bust for a bust with the Benning pick throw in.
Hopefully Pouliot finally establishes himself but I won't hold my breath.
Downside of this move is that he likely throws Stetcher or Hutton off the PP, both of which probably have untapped offensive potential while being a hell of alot better in their own end.
Decent value but on odd trade. - Whiskey-Tango
Pouliot matured into an awesome player in my NHL 2015 GM mode.
Highly sought after young player.

No one seems too excited, but I guess Pedan is so much better because he couldn't crack the 29th worst team in the league. - Makita
Pouliot could barely crack the PIT defensive roster last year and they were pretty thin, even after Letang went down. Its a very similar situation to Pedan.
Essentially, we paid a 3rd and a 4th for Pouliot. |

Pedan's ceiling was as an average 5/6 stay at home physical defender. Pouliot's upside is as a great 3/4 if he can figure out the dzone stuff.
The knock seems to be he wasn't willing to put the work in. Given what we have seen happen with Virtanen last year, I'm hoping TG can get into his head. |

We have finally got the last piece for the Kesler for Pulliot Sutter or Bonino trade.
Probably could have just claimed Pulliot in a couple of hours for free but what is the point of a Canuck transistion without giving up a pick?
Could be low risk high reward but probably will be another Linden Vey type deal.

Do you believe a word of that scouting report Don posted? Even if that report was 50% true he seems like a pretty dynamic player. Well at least a player with amazing speed.
After years of watching Bieksa plodding around back there it would be nice to see some speed generated from the backend. |

For the Pens it was a matter of getting a player that cleared waivers. I do like the pickup for Vancouver though. I always felt that the Pens messed up his development. However, they did such an amazing job with Schultz and some others that Pouliot may truly just be a lazy player.
I guess we'll find out. |

If Pouliot has that much speed I've never seen it. He's a good skater, but I've never seen anything more than above average (at most) speed. He also seems slow with the puck and other decisions. |

Thanks Carol!
I don't really care for the trade, as it doesn't make any sense to me, and acquiring picks instead of dishing them off is something I would much rather see, but I guess they didn't feel comfortable enough with either Weircoch/Biega as a 7th.
I guess everyone knows what time it is:

I'm not sure why these correlations need to be made, but I'll make one that seems just as asinine to me...
Essentially, we paid a 3rd and 4th for a 1st (8thOA).
If they are all crap then why try to dramatize that Canucks gave up the better package. |

Not grabbing Pokka on waivers, but then trading for Pouliot is... a little odd though. |

May be true, but look what you've been watching. In comparison, a hummingbird would look slow and indecisive compared to some Pitts players.
I think you and I are working towards two different benchmarks. |

because when you are a team that is rebuilding or retooling or whatever you want to call it, draft picks mean much more than just tossing them into these fringe NHL player trades. Palmu, Gaudette, Rathbone, Lockwood, Dipietro. These are all 3rd round picks or later. Picks matter to a team like the Canucks. No draft pick holds little value when you are trying to re-stock the cupboards
And the draft position of a player is immediately thrown out the window once they are drafted. All that can be used is a measuring stick for potential and expectation, because they aren't treated any differently once they are drafted, still need to work to make a team. We could recap how many former first round picks, inside the first 10 picks, have gone on to be either busts or PTO players or what have you, its almost irrelevant. |

I'm willing to bet that report was written years and years ago
I can remember when Don and I argued about a prospects weight and he was posting up old reports that hadn't been updated but wouldn't acknowledge the updated ones...
I'm going to start using that logic and tell people I'm only 180 pounds. |

Thanks for that, it was what I mentioned earlier, sometimes players need a change of venue and sometimes they never work out. I like the trade also, I never thought Pedan could make the NHL full time, but hopefully he makes it in Pittsburg. |
