Paper transactions officially done.

Forward Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Gustav Forsling have been recalled from Rockford. #Blackhawks

After all is said and done, we have 4.275m of cap to work with.

Zaripov is still out there. He could a low risk/high reward LW to play with Kaner. Just a thought.

There is a reason he's still out there...Hawks don't need to add wingers, especially aging Russian ones that got banned from KHL for doping that have never played in the NHL before.

If Hawks go for anything it should be another D-man or potentially a center (if one is there).

Why do people come up with these ideas?

Should be a great game to watch tonight between Leafs + Jets. Matthews and Laine will both score 40+ goals this year if they stay healthy...BOOK IT!

Too be honest, not even 100% sure how good Merrill is.

I know he has some experience with 200+ NHL games, where he was playing in a top 4 role in NJ (albeit on some bad teams) and early days played some good hockey for Univ. of Michigan to get himself drafted in the 2nd round.

He and Murphy will know each other from some US National teams, so there is some familiarity there.

Who knows though... just spittballin' over here. ha.

Hockey Futures says this about him, "Merrill is a solid two-way defender with outstanding poise and hockey smarts. He skates well, shows no fear in rushing the puck up the ice and can quarterback a power play with his great distribution skills and shot. Since he has not played a full season of hockey since his freshman campaign at Michigan, he is still a little raw. Still, he has risen to the occasion and makes his team better whenever he’s on the ice."

The Hockey News scouting report on Merrill. Bottom line, inconsistent defenseman. Also hasn't played more than 3/4 of a NHL season. Don't know if due to injury or what. Not sure if it's really an upgrade on who the Hawks have.

For a person that ripped Bickell at the end of his Hawks career for his lack of production prior to announcing his medical issue, it was good to see him retire a hawk. You can sense a very down to earth attitude by this guy and somebody who was grateful for every moment he was in "the show".

I also hope the quest to bash the Toews/Kane deals goes darker by the day. Eichel signing his deal at that amount is a sign of things to come. And I'd still take 19/88 today over him.....with 19 having a very short leash in terms of that argument.

See the piece in the DH on McDonough today with part 2 coming tomorrow? Talking about new chapter, fresh start, etc.....same buzz that was around this team prior to 2013 after winning a cup and then losing to Van and Arz in back to back 1st rounds. Problem is, the last 2 1st round exits, especially STL you were a loaded team. The latter vs Nash you got waxed. Very curious to see how this all plays out.

A very much transition year for the Hawks......Lots of holes on D, upfront in regards to rookie play, 2nd year players taking next steps, veterans bouncing back, etc.

Went to the bathroom for some nose candy and then tried to pee on a food cart. Maybe take a pee in the bathroom next time Jiri and wipe that nose off.

Serious note hope he gets some help. That is messed up.

How is Zaripov any crazier than going after Duchene? Also, Zaripov was banned for a substance that is LEGAL in NHL. Finally, if you think the Hawks don't need a winger than you are the crazy one because by my count there is no legit wing to play opposite Kaner. I love ADB but I am not counting on an undersized 19 y/o to be our savior on the second line (then I would be glad if he was).

Which is why I have zero issue with Franson signing. He's an offensive D man and slotted at 5/6/7 can be serviceable and he's hungry.

We forget how up/down Kempny was last year. Murphy, while the physical tools may be there, has NEVER put it all together because if he had he wouldn't have been traded by ARZ. hawks have a lot of question marks on D after 2/7, and that's assuming those 2 bounce back to their old forms.

I also agree at C....so many assumed this kid they got in addition to Murphy from Arz was a lock to make team as a Kruger lite, and walla......he's in Rockford.

Need to stress patience here....give it 20 games. Need to see how this plays out, who can handle the day in/day out of NHL play, and make adjustments after that. Good news is Stan has some cap room so that's a good start.

And lets stop with the Duchene pipe dream......how does anyone think he's coming here is beyond me. Who is going back? Exactly...pieces don't work.

Tootoo and Rosy were put on IR before the season started so the Hawks couldn't take full advantage of their cap hits. Also, since they just brought up Forsling and Debrincat, their salaries are added in. Those moves are what I believe is accounting for the 2.1m cap remaining.

This joker is no more proven than any of the kids in line to play on the wing with Kane...hartman is gonna play there and I'd rather have him than a 36 year old Russian who has never played here and only reason now that it seems he has interest is because he got himself banned from the KHL....And WHO CARES if the substances is legal here, its NOT THERE and he broke the rules. Pass. If you want something Russian, I suggest vodka.

While we're tossing around worthless names, maybe Alex Semin would look good on that line.

Saw that. CF roster is updated to full 23 man with ADB and Forsling back from paper and including Franson penciled in at an unconfirmed $1M. Cap Overage = $3,685,628.

I still don't understand how CF calculates the $2,441,667 'remaining LTIR'#? Perhaps someone can explain?

LTIR #s (k):
Hossa 5,275
Tootoo 700
Rosinval 650
Total 6,625 k LTIR salary pool

And I thought there was 34k of cap room not used at the deadline?

So why is remaining LTIR not = $6,625,000 LTIR Pool - $3,685,628 Overage - $34,000 Unused at Deadline = $2,905,000 instead of $2,442,667? Anyone?

I bet by 7/1 at the latest, Hossa money is moved elsewhere. Now that NHL has appeased the smaller market teams crying foul on his health status, there is no reason to carry that cap hit AND it's attractive to a smaller market because the actual salary paid out to Hossa is minimal.

DIDnt like much of what I've seen of Tommy Wingles so far in the preseason. I'm hoping he comes around and becomes a useful bottom 6 asset. One thing I noticed with Bouma... which was really lacking the last season or two outside of Hammer, is shot blocking. Might be an unsung hero of this team one day.

Glad hockey is finally back.

So according to you, someone who excelled in the KHL and in international play is "not proven" because he has not played in the NHL. Good to know. I guess you also want to bring over Merrill because he is a "proven" NHL star to play top 4 minutes here.

Personally, I would rather take a flier on good hockey player and not lose a pick or a prospect then grab some other teams trash. If Merrill is so great then you have to wonder why he was made expendable in the expansion draft and then did not make VGK opening day roster. But yes, Merrill is the Hawks savior on D.

Not totally sure but looks like, $182,500 bonus usage came out of LTIR too.

My guess is that Stan and Q wait for a while (6 weeks???) to see what some of the young kids can do. If a move is made I would guess it's on defense, not forward. If Debrincat cannot cut the mustard I would expect to see Hinostroza recalled before a trade is made (for a forward).

That is too many 8s on one line....Kinda like when Bouma was with Kero and Wingels, and everyone's number ends in 7.

Idk but I like those lines. Random side note did Toews drop some serious weight? He is listed on NHL.com as being 201lbs. I could have sworn he used to be listed between 210-215lbs in years past.
