Cap Friendly twitter feed has an interesting tweet about how the Hawks are becoming cap complaint with recent roster moves and LTIR assignments.

If anybody with more technical savvy than me can post it here for all to read it would be appreciated.

Well it looks like $6,275,000 or so!
- walleyeb1

The way CapFriendly explains it, the placement of Tootoo and Rozsival on LTIR before the season starts is just to cover the current overage and brings them to $0 over. Then they'll put Hossa on and be able to go over the cap only his cap hit, so $5.275m.

I hope you are right about Murphy. My concerns with him have to do with just hockey IQ, playing, reacting. I thought things looked too fast for him. Maybe he's pressing, learning new system/team. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but I am concerned. If he turns into a legit top 4 D-man the Hawks have the potential to be outstanding.

If you are thinking before you read and react everything is going to be too fast. That goes for most sports. Hopefully the new system and new good habits click quickly.

For lack of comparison, I think the Hawks have done a better job of addressing D depth and young D talent. There isn't a clear cut guy who is going to develop into a #1 but I think one of the downfalls of the Wings long run is that they simply could not produce young D men that could even fill is as good 3/4s. Hawks have a few youngsters with solid potential add in the slightly older Czechs. I feel better about our D in a few years than I did 2 seasons ago.

I agree with first paragraph. My question is that the case with him? Or is he just not a good hockey player at this speed? Time will tell. He seems like a really good kid so I am not a hater and while Bowman has made poor 11th hour trades, he has also made some nice trades by getting under the radar/change of scenery guys and Murphy fits that mold. So I am optimistic on that front.

Two years ago we had a younger Seabs, younger Keith and Hammer...from 1-3 the Hawks were better two years ago, but I do admit 4-7 look better today. How this equation sorts itself out no one really knows.

Agree with the last part. Was talking more along the lines of overall depth and the potential some of the youngsters have to be more than just bottom pairing guys. 1-3 definitely a step down from 2 years ago.

Best case scenario is Murphy becomes legitimate a top pairing guy and one of the other prospects becomes a solid 2/3 in a few years. Window extended?

I don't see a single team that is head and shoulders above the rest of the Playoff Caliber teams. As long as the hard Salary Cap is in place to even the playing field, once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. Guys like Schmaltz, Hartman, Debrincat, Hayden, Murphy, Forsling, ect can contribute and the Hawks have $5mil in cap space to add an impact player either via trade or Free Agency next summer. The window is open for another couple years, as long as Keith is still playing 25 minutes a night of elite hockey and Patrick Kane is at a PPG scoring pace....IMO.

Heard TooToo was also going on LTIR.......
Tootoo....Rosy.....Hossa.....

How much Cap space we gonna have at the end of it all!!!!!!!

enough room for Bowman to trade a couple of them smurphs +, for Matt Duchene,( here come the F U's), Toews squaked loud enough and finally got his boy back, you think Kane is gonna sit quietly after the first couple of weeks when big boy hockey starts and Schmaultz reverts to coughing up the puck as he hears footsteps and DBC is in over his head, that second line will probably be AA,Kane and Sharp by the Oiler game.

You realize that Matt Duchene is 5'11" 195lbs right? I was hanging out with Duchene, Landescog, and Rantanen at a Denver bar last March and he is the exact same size as I am, maybe a half inch shorter and a few pounds lighter (I weight-lift 3-4 times per week). That is not a "smurf" but it is not large, by any stretch in today's NHL. Duchene would be a great addition to the Top 6 Forwards, without a doubt. But he only has 2 years left on his current contract and Defense is a more pressing need, both in the present and future,IMO.

I'm guessing they won't invest 4 million on him this time

Good for them to bring him back for the farewell.

The Blackhawks organization has so much class, ever since Rocky took over. What a contrast from the Dollar Bill days!

I think SB has done a very good job in delivering the needed change he promised. He and his scouting department have found and added promising new players (ADB, Hayden, Forsberg, Rutta, Murphy), reacquired former core players (Saad, Sharp) and integrated young players ready to take the next step (Schmaltz, Hartman, Forsling, Kero, Kempny) with the great leadership core (Kane, Keith, Toews, Seabs and Crawford) to once again field an exciting team that realistically could contend for the Cup. Whether they will or not, none of us know, but it should be very interesting, and a lot of fun, watching this team develop.

If it is how CapFriendly says, then it is not room for Duchene unless Colorado retains a decent amount ($1.5m at least) and/or a high salaried player moves out (not just a couple of ELC guys) unless they want to have absolutely no wiggle room for call-ups in case of injury.

The way CapFriendly explains it, the placement of Tootoo and Rozsival on LTIR before the season starts is just to cover the current overage and brings them to $0 over. Then they'll put Hossa on and be able to go over the cap only his cap hit, so $5.275m.
- L_B_R

Did things just work out this way or did Stan have this move planned out last winter?

I think it's highly likely it's the former, but Rozsival ($750,000) and Tootoo ($650,000) were both extended back on February 28th. It was clearly a move to satisfy the expansion draft requirements.

But then, coincidentally (or not), those contracts happen to add up to the exact amount to allow the Hawks to remove the full amount of Hossa's cap hit when he's placed on LTIR.

Stan can't be THAT good, can he?

Things that make you go hmmm...

Ye of little Faith . Schmaltz by the sounds of it has worked on his game over the summer ,and it was not bad last year in the 2nd 1/2 of the season for sure . I may be bias ,no I am and wishful also .I think Debrincat could be a very special player ,U can't teach goal scoring ,and this kid has that .We need Duchene and his cap hell like a whole in the head ,throwing money at a imagined problem is not the answer
