How did he look during training camp?
- DarthKane

When I saw him, not noticeable. CBJ are a deeper team also than some realize.

Make sense. My original comment was more based on the fact that they wanted Motte in the trade with Chicago.

Fair point. Just cuz he got sent down doesn't mean he sucks or has no future either.

I tend to be cynical but realistic. It's great he made the team! OK, how do you feel about the TEAM? There are questions, if not holes. So ....
- John Jaeckel

I understand JJ and sometimes it's better to hedge your bets, especially when you're the blogger for the team. My thoughts on the team have been pretty well expressed. I like it overall, BUT...am concerned about center depth and overall defense.

Defense is my biggest concern. We're down to TWO legit, proven D-men, one of which is coming off his worst year ever (Keith) and the other of which many say is on the backside (Seabrook). After that you have two Czeck imports that I DO LIKE A LOT, are still very unproven and a young yet experienced player (Murphy) who has looked like poop in every game I've seen him, another kid (Gus), a slow-footed vet (Franson) who should help on the offensive end some. Overall, a HUGE MISH MASH of who knows, I am not sure and I hope it doesn't blow up.

I LOVE the wingers, up and down the lineup, but I am still concerned over center. Hawks are going with -after 19- Schmaltz, AA and Kero. OK, not bad players at all and 8 is potentially great and AA would be a perfect third liner on an ELITE team, but can ANY OF THEM win critical faceoffs in critical situations? Dunno. If they do improve at the dot (or the new rules aids them) we're fine in center. I think our 4 centers are LEGIT 200 foot players, so they will help our D a ton.

Goalie we're legit and I like the style Ulf is coaching the defense so far I've seen.

It was reported/discussed that the Jackets insisted that Motte be included in the Panarin/Saad deal. I thought he would have been given a shot to make the team.

Sounds like Motte could be their Hinostroza.

- DarthKane

I think it's just that he's still young/inexperienced and they have other options for a lower line role.

It will not be that much our roster was down to 20 to get under and then have to add back $3 mil in players so we should have about $3.3 mil left aprrx to add but it increases every day Proratated

It's not. Once a player is put in LTIR, cap space is no longer banked.

But if they're talking about a TDL pick up, that player's salary is prorated. They'll have something like $2.5-7m in space after Debricat and Forsling are recalled and Franson is signed.

JJ first with 3 players now going to LTIR do you think bowman has a trade already in place that could get done in say first 2 weeks or does he wait until thanksgiving or around that time? Second any word on what the future considerations the hawks would get from vegas? This my lines for opening day:

saad towes panik
adb AA kane
Hartman smatlz wiggles
bouma kero hayden

kieth seabrook (for the start of season don t see it lasting)
kempney murphy(let him ease in less pressure to start probably ends playing w/ kieth)
orestle franson
x rutta forsling (possible trade asset)

Crawford
Forsberg (lots of upside like a lot)

Possible trades:

forsling 2019 1st for evander kane
forsling 2018 1st ADB 3rd 2019 for duchence ( sakic has drawn this out to long won't get full value now teams tried of dealing with him Duchene wants out)

Nathan Noel and Luc Snuggerund are on the season opening roster on IR. These are probably paper move too. Expect them to be sent down before our season opener.

Which should add $1,543,383 in available overage space.

Great fricking post. If 8 takes hold of the 2C spot then this team has some legit forward depth regardless of who is on Kane's wing. The biggest issue on D for me is that we need guys that can remain composed in our own end. Huge problem last year and one of the main reasons the Hawks got pinned in their own end so much (and why Crow saw so much rubber). It didn't help that 4 was on his offside the entire year either. Flipping pucks up the Boards on you backhand really isn't going to help possession numbers.

I like what I have seen from Rutta. Composed and confident with the puck in his own end and a big body. He has made some mistakes and will continue to but I think his progression coupled with Kempny continuing to grow is the key to this years team. All about the 2 Czechs.

I LOVE what I've seen from Rutta, but I don't want to get (as JJ would say) too far over my skis. In fact, I think he and not Murphy belongs with Keith given his composure in his own zone. Kempny is another that has me excited as well. In fact, THESE two are the ONLY reason I have any hope our D will be better than expected. I have a feeling both will do well this year. Could be wrong, but my feeling watching them so far tells me there is reason to trust them. If they ascend then that makes Murphy, should he falter, less an issue playing lower minutes against lesser players on the third pair. Somehow, someway we need 2 of Rutta, Kempny, Murphy, Forsling to develop into capable Top 4 D-men, not just on the lineup card, but capabilities on the ice. Right now my bets are with the Czech boys, though even they are huge question marks...due to lack of sample size. We start collecting the data Thursday night.

"Bob McKenzie: Though not 100 percent certain, seems likely that the Blackhawks will eventually sign Cody Franson and Alex Chiasson."

Saw the above on mynhltraderumors.com

Chaisson a 27 year old RW averaging 20-30 points a year for the last few years. More forward depth?

- boilermaker100

Chiasson has some scoring ability.

I think it meant Franson eventually to Hawks and Chiasson eventually to Caps...

I am not too concerned about Murphy yet. I trust Q saying that the staff needs to uncoach bad habits he developed in AZ. I will be concerned if he does not show a solid amount of improvement by game 20. I'd be thrilled if Q told keith to take off the extra 2 mins of PP time per game but we know that won't happen.

Cap Friendly twitter feed has an interesting tweet about how the Hawks are becoming cap complaint with recent roster moves and LTIR assignments.

If anybody with more technical savvy than me can post it here for all to read it would be appreciated.

I hope you are right about Murphy. My concerns with him have to do with just hockey IQ, playing, reacting. I thought things looked too fast for him. Maybe he's pressing, learning new system/team. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but I am concerned. If he turns into a legit top 4 D-man the Hawks have the potential to be outstanding.

I think it speaks volumes that he was with CBJ this late into camp. He likely gets a shot later in the year as injuries creep into the equation.
