Another DeBrincat cold water blog. NO ONE said he's gonna carry an elite team. But maybe he can play his part on an elite team. The reason this team won't be elite will likely be because of insufficient defense. It appears ADB is starting on line 3 with AA and Sharp, so why even bring up his "deficiencies" as a line 2 player to begin with?

That said, Kane didn't exactly play with guys who can handle "taking runs at people" the last two years...AA nor Panarin struck fear in anyone, what they did was score points and THAT'S what Kane needs, capable linemates that can play at his level.

But I'll play, you need a big guy..try Hayden. Did he not earn at least a look? Maybe Hartman who it appears may begin the year on that line is a very physical and capable player down low, the guy scored 20 NOT playing with Patrick Kane last year. Not a bad sign.

There is ZERO rush to start adding forwards, we just sent an NHL forward (Hino) to Rockford, the depth is there. Give it a few weeks and see how the kids progress. Players like Ruuta, Murphy and Kempny probably will have much more to say about how far this team can go than the left wing on line 3, a position the Hawks likely have several capable players should DeBrincat not show well.

Except that Roszival was once good, Franson never has been.

The stats don't line up with your opinion, but okay.

So it's just the Cap dance with the Cat being sent down right? Just paper transactions to be cap compliant?

Is this just to get under at the beginning of the season?
- StLBravesFan

Those have to be the cap moves. ADB and forsling are waiver exempt.

Q and B wanted someone with EXP at that #7 spot. Who would have been better for $1MIL? Roz was better then him when he was 30 but Roz was making $5 mil per year
at that point. if he could be 34-35 Roz I'm OK with that and Roz was making 2.4 then.

I think Franson has looked like a bottom pairing NHL d man with a pretty good O, Slow skating and with some size and toughness.

"Bob McKenzie: Though not 100 percent certain, seems likely that the Blackhawks will eventually sign Cody Franson and Alex Chiasson."

Saw the above on mynhltraderumors.com

Chaisson a 27 year old RW averaging 20-30 points a year for the last few years. More forward depth?

TOOTOO on LTIR because he does not want to goto Rockford and we wanted to keep 8 D and 13 forwards (not including him). and not expose or Osterle. That LTIR seems Odd why would the NHL agree on that one. he played in the preseason.

Can you waive a player and then put them on LTIR? I think you can.

I'm surprised Motte didn't make the Jackets.

IIRC, Chiasson's knock was always he can't play defense. Two way deal I hope if so.

He'll be signed by Washington, not us.

Not sure why they'd go for him. He's OK I guess, but not sure how he'd be an improvement over anyone else projected in our bottom 6.

They are. Q specifically said today that there could be some of these paper-only transactions and that both DeBrincat and Forsling did make the team.

NHL Rumors read a tweet wrong, I guess. McKenzie was specific that Chiasson was signing in Washington.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
Not 100% certain but seems more likely than not that Cody Franson (CHI) and Alex Chiasson (WSH) will (eventually this week) sign NHL deals.

I'm not - they have a full roster and he's waiver exempt. Anderson signed so they've got a decent top 12/13.

Capfriendly shows Nathan Noel and Luc Snuggerud on Season-Opening-Injured-Reserve. Interesting, looks like paper transactions to me

And, actually an improvement over 2016-17 Rozy ....
- Hank_Greenberg

Yup. Franson is no great shakes....but, better than Rosy for sure. For #1 million, works great as a 6-7 guy. Well before he was invited for the PTO I was saying Franson on the cheap was a good addition for the Hawks. With all the talk of Duchesne (which is a nice pipe-dream) and a Power LW for Kane....(Like maybe Evander????) Either MAY come to be, who knows....but I think Defence is where we need the help first. Franson is just a little bottom help, hopefully the Hossa Cap relief will help Stan find a 3-4 guy...(Trouba-like) to help solidify this D-group!!!

It was reported/discussed that the Jackets insisted that Motte be included in the Panarin/Saad deal. I thought he would have been given a shot to make the team.

Sounds like Motte could be their Hinostroza.

I tend to be cynical but realistic. It's great he made the team! OK, how do you feel about the TEAM? There are questions, if not holes. So ....
