Barzal is really good.

100 points seems pretty unlikely though.

- BINGO!

Agreed, I'm thinking somewhere around 130.

So a team that finished with 90+ points despite a really bad first 3 months, injured JT from January-march, horrible Hamonic-Leddy pair, 3 months of Cappy, and 3 goalie fiasco that hurt them in march can't get above 100 points this year despite upgrading at forward, coachimg analytics and philosophy and honestly, not really downgrading the defense?

Not saying it's all sunshine and rainbows, but yes we should be a 100+ point team

They could, but I would bet the under. Rookies make rookie mistakes which often cost wins.

And their mistakes - which they will make a few of no doubt - can be covered for given that they're playing middle 6 minutes with the veterans.

I just find it hard to believe that with all the positives I just listed, that can't at least get the team 6 more points compared to last season

While I love the kids you have coming up and the improved coaching, I still think you have a few too many anchors on the squad, and that there's been too much improvement around the Metro for them to make that much of a jump.

I think some of the other Metro teams have improved more in the offseason than the Isles have.

Of course, the Caps are falling apart, so there is that.

That's because you put too much faith into unproven players.

Aside from 2, maybe 3 bottom dmen(that I think coaching can honestly fix), what are the too many anchors on this squad?

How exactly did the Blue Jackets, Flyers, and Rangers improve so drastically higher
compared to the Islanders overall? I honestly don't see it. Seriously.

Find it hard to believe if you want, but just remember who's steering this ship. Snow! The only upgrade to forward was Ebs. As JS mentioned, rookies sometimes make rookie mistakes that cost games. That equates to points left on the table. I think there might be 8-10 points lost because of rookie mistakes. Throw another 10-15 points lost due to mistakes of others and goalies just having off nights. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it can't or won't be done. Just saying I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't hit 100.

The final nail for the Caps will be when Snow trades every draft pick for the next 2 years for Ovi after this season. When JT walks.

I agree that Snow should resign but we gotta look past that. Obviously we have different levels of faith regarding the coaching staff. Also, do you really think Leddy is going to have a horrible pairing partner for 3 months? Maybe a couple of weeks due to Boychuk common injuries, but 3 months?

Well theu gave away abiut that much with jfb alone and now we have 2 happy and good goalies. Rookies will make mistakes but theres still way more talant then last year. I feel safe in saying barzal and jhs will have mire points then quine and prince had last year. Also neither of those two were defensive stalwarts either

Understand something, junior. I'm not saying you're wrong. I never said I don't have faith in this coaching staff. Though you might lean further to the unicorns & butterflies while I'm more in the wait & see how the first couple weeks go camp. I like how Weight has handled things so far. I like the Asst. coaching hires. I've liked what I've seen in their play(albeit, very little). I like the attitude that I'm hearing from Weight. There's a lot to like. I'm just not getting myself up for yet another disappointing year.

There's a lot to look forward to. A lot to be excited about. I'm just going to reserve judgement for a couple weeks. Decades of being an Isles fan has taught me not to get too excited for a season.

I don't think Columbus improved much (May have gotten worse.) Flyers trimmed a lot of fat and continue to get younger/leaner. Rangers D is vastly improved, though losing Stepan up front will hurt.

To me, the biggest issue for the Isles is the team defense. They were top 10 in scoring last year, but were also bottom 10 in goals against. That's a big issue and one that I'm not sure they really addressed.
