Dude Pittsburgh was sick. On every line, in every phase. I watched on dvr expecting to see a competitive 5-4 game. Instead it was like two teams from two leagues. We had Eichel and then a bunch of random nobodies just trying to hang on. Bogo and Kane threatened to look like elites at moments, by geez. We got outclassed. We really missed out in our tank getting Reinhart. I'm mean he's really ok, but he'll never touch Malkin's stratosphere. We really got unlucky whilst tanking.

Ok, but using the 2nd best player drafted in the 10 years before him isn't exactly a good barometer either though.

The Pens have been playing their system for 2 years, the Sabres have been playing theirs for 2 weeks. Plus the Pens have been the hands down best team with the best player in the league for those 2 years. We beat them last week, they beat us tonight. And oh, it's preseason.

Damn. 1000+ posts.

We embarrass the rest of this site with our team page.

I may be rather polarizing, but we're a funny lot and I enjoy being here.

Huh?

He has 4 points in 3 games. He's been creating all over the place, but getting no help. And he still has 4 points in 3 games.

Really man it's preseason....our three best defenceman didn't play, #4 scored a goal and was a plus 2, there was as many as 8 guys playing that won't be here come regular season

I'm aware but the number has had a less that stellar history with this team (at least recently).

- Der Kaiser

Connolly was #18 prior to them retiring it for Danny Gare.

No offense to Mr Gare but there is zero reason 18 is retired.

Retired numbers are for player that no other player could ever do what one did while playing in that jersey number or what you did for the franchise.

3 points all time ahead of Vanek

Luce, Foligno, Housely, and Andreychuk all have more points for the Franchise..... 2 are in the HOF , Yet Gare has his number raised?

I'm just saying.

This is why the eye test must coexist with stats / analytics.
The stats don't tell the reason for why heart and soul player Danny Gare was revered by fans and players alike at the time he played.
I'd take Danny on my team any day.

Through two periods we outplayed them statistically, and played them even on the scoreboard. We outshot them for the game (helped by a few minutes of no goalie at the end) but I think it was pretty close other than a few breakdowns in the DZone and the PP goal.

We didn’t seem to have any fluidity in our attack - I hope that will come as we grow more accustomed to playing at that pace. It bet s/he felt like the Pens were dominating because they’re used to playing at that pace and their style was cleaner.

Jeez I went to bed and all the doom and gloom came out..

They played a decent game. Girgs was a force and Bogo was getting his shots through to the net. Even Dlo looked like he has been putting his limited playing time to good use. The team didn't quit being down 5-2.

Risto, McCabe, Scandella, and Lehner did not play. That in and of itself is a big reason the score was able to get out of hand.

I'm not gonna lie, it was refreshing to see them be able to score 2 goals late in the game with the goalie pulled.

Did the wheels fall off a bit? Sure. But they were playing against most of Pittsburghs big guns. We had about half of what our opening night defense will look like out there last night.

It's preseason. Let's not panic folks. I thought they did a lot of things well. Just have to continue to clean it up a bit.

Yes, but "I would take him on my team any team any day" and the whether or not he should have his number retired are two completely different arguments. Number retirements should be reserved for great players. Danny Gare was a good player, not a great one.

Personally, the only numbers that should be up there are the French Connection and Hasek. I can live with LaFontaine, but a good chunk of his stats were while playing with somebody else. The same goes for Tim Horton.

Serious question: Is buying tix for tomorrow on Stubhub reliable?

I've never used the secondary market for anything but the last time I got tix from a neighbor (who got them second-hand), it turns out the tix had been reported as lost...we didn't make it past security and got grilled for twenty minutes.

Literally have never been to a Sabres game without buying the ticket off Stubhub

but ya...I second the "print the ticket" advice....just makes it easier at the gate

I've never had an issue buying tickets off stub hub. I've done it for multiple events, some of which have been in other cities.

My beef with stub hub these days is that the fees have gotten out of control. It used to be fairly reasonable. Now it's insane.

Thanks for the stubhub advice. Can't beat $14 for 100 level primes (+ fees)!
