Rich Clune back with #Leafs after being cut from camp. Babcock referenced liberty taken w/ Marner on Tues., wanted second Martin type

what happened to Marner?
E.J. Debenham @Debenham9 Sep 22
Well as soon as the sens saw that Martin wasn't in the line up the hit him as much as he was hit all year last year. |

Borgman and Rosen have both looked better then the AHL level defencemen I was expecting them to be. |

he's Stamkos good, not Crosby, Malkin, McDavid good. Unless he was playing for my team, then I'd be like you guys - LeftCoaster

As far as the Clune twitter post I posted I somewhat agree.
I mean I agree with most of you about having Leivo or Rychel on that fourth line instead of Martin but I dont think they deter some of those goons from taking out liberties on some of the boys as much as martin or Clune does.I think you have to have one of them on the team even though they suck. |

time will tell
eichel had a much better ppg in year 2 on a bum leg
not comparing the 2, but it will be interesting to see how matthews responds in year 2 on a roster with a much better top 6 then what jack has.
If Matthews puts up say 80 points in this season, give or take pending games played, perhaps

Probably not the place for Eichel >> Matthews discussions. Your numbers ignore ice time. They also ignore that last year Eichel was not playing with 2 rookies. I believe there was a big disparity in PP time also. O'Rielly also took on the other team's best lines. Matthews, in the second half of the year took on the other team's best lines.
Another difference I already see in their games is that Babcock is coaching Matthews into being a true dominant 2-way, #1 C. Matthews may never rack up the points of McDavid, maybe not even Eichel. He may very well be the best 2-way center in the league. I think of him kind of like a Datsyuk/Bergeron, who I believe are two of the most underrated players of our time.
and... Eichel needs to grow the (frank) up, He has been a (frank)ing douchebag early in his career. |

I think so too. Very good skater, better hands.
He's always on the puck, always going to the net.
Probably no room this year, but he's knocking on thr door. |

Even with Genos injuries & nights off, Geno has a Con Smyth which means he's a pretty decent player - so I'd take Geno over Matthews. Until there is more to see, McD as well, then probably a few others that have been discussed elsewhere as well.
They say that because McD is so offensive minded & he usually has the puck, defence is in the form of attack. I'd take McD with his defensive deficiencies as well. - Aussiepenguin
Have to highlight this. You'd be dumb to do that. I would never trade Matthews for Malkin or even Crosby at this point. would not be the logical thing to do. |

I agree, he's decent, at pick 23 Benning must have got lucky with the dart board, that 2015 draft was a really good one. Had to try pretty hard to not pick well in the first round especially in the top 10. Biggest dud so far is Strome - we'll have to wait and see, but I somehow doubt he will be better than Marner.
