Which is why I think if Barzal makes the team as a 2C right off the bat, you should trade Bailey while he's fresh off of his best year. Because at this point, we would have a logjam at forward. - bgainesDM
Trade him for what? He may have had his best year, but who would want him? He still doesn't have much value. He'll be 28 in a few weeks and in the final year of his contract that has a $3.3m cap hit. What are you going to give up for a 30 point producer? |

Sam Gagner had trade value. Martin Hanzal went for a 1st and other picks and he goes to IR every time he sneezes.
Bailey absolutely has value as a third liner to a team that figures to make a run at a Cup. He's on a cheap deal that expires at the end of the season and would probably have a few cap-strapped teams interested if he were made available. He's not going to fetch much of a price, but he'd get us a mid-round pick or two. |

The guy had more 5 on 5 points per 60 min than JT this past season(not saying he's better by any means), had 21 primary assists and not too bad defensively either.
Look, we got a first and 2 2nds for an injury-prone, 2nd pair at best, and a -21 a season ago dman as well as Barzal and, later on, Beauvillier for Reinhart(who's not going to even make the Golden Knights roster btw.) I can't rule out teams wanting Bailey as much as we like to rag on him. Bottomline, he's a playmaker that could fit other team's needs whether we like it or not. |

Well, my counter-point would actually help your point. And that is, just because a GM is willing to overpay for a player, doesn't mean that player is worth that much. A team might take a flier on Bailey for a playoff push or run. Unless he picks up where he left off, i don't see any GM giving more than a 5th-7th round pick or 2 for him. |

I'm sure there are teams that might take him. I just don't see him having much value. Maybe, as my response to chiefs indicates, a 5th-7th round pick or 2. I don't care what he did last season. At this point, that was an anomaly. If he picks up where he left off, I'll start buying in. I'm reserving judgement until the regular season. |

My brother was at the game yesterday and he said Bailey looked Horrible along with LAdd and Chimera. He said the crowd was really getting down on Bailey and booing him non stop.
If that is true its good to see Bailey back to his old self - kasperrko
yes bailey was getting some hate until he pulled this offensive move that made the crowd awwwwwwwwwwww. He didnt score but had he it would of been all over the NHL network.
Ladd and Chimera played fine. Overall team played great. Too many penalties would be my old complaint.
Your brother seems as knowledgeable on isles as you are. |

I think he'd be more in the "3rd + 5th" range, or something to that effect. Way worse players have gone for better than just a 5th-7th round pick.

Bailey should only be traded if rejects a extension by snow at modest rate. I think Bailey like last year will be one of our best players.
I thought Beauvillier was lock to make team, i think Barzal going to make that very tough now. |

As if there's something else to do. I'm actually hoping he turns the corner and picks up where he left off. That'd be good for him and the team. I don't think it will happen, but I hope it does. |

There is no spot for Bailey going forward. He's going to be 29 at the start of his next contract and keeping him around here for another 5-or-so years with all the talent coming behind him is just taking a roster spot from someone younger, cheaper, and more skilled. |

Seems unlikely since they brought in Eberle to play with Tavares. I think it's pretty obvious that his uptick in production was largely a byproduct of who he was playing with. |

dont disagree here. Barzal, JHS, Beauvillier seem ready for the taken.
But 29 years off at 50+ point season you still have many years of great hockey.
Bailey might of been slow to come around but if he can match production of last year, it should not be ignored. |

True, but Bailey has lots of incentive to play hard THIS season, because he's playing for possibly his last NHL contract. So on that basis, it might be worth holding onto him for depth, if all we're getting back is a mid to late round pick. |

Eberle looked awesome yesterday. He is fast, and not scared to shoot. I think Lee Tavares Eberle going to do alot of damage in league this year. |

That line isn't going to go over too well
It's not as much as knock on Bailey as it is a compliment to the kids coming up behind them. They need to play and, assuming they have strong years, they need to be given more responsibility. Paying Josh $4M to be a third liner for another 5 years would be as stupid as paying Cizikas and Clutterbuck what we do to be fourth liners. There are comparable players that would be available at a significantly lower cost. |

That's a fair point and I definitely don't disagree with the logic.
I was mostly getting at the fact that, regardless of trading him or just allowing him to walk, his time with the Islanders should come to an end after this season. |
