Dude, have you been day drinking? I don't know any Islander fan that thinks Snow is a good GM.

This is going to be a wait and see season for a lot of reasons. My biggest questions going in are Weight and Ho-Sang. I know you disagree, but I still say they get in as WC1 or WC2 (then lose in the the first round 4-2). Crappy was an anchor around the team's neck. Getting rid of him was addition by subtraction.

I think you're gonna see another Isles team who will win a round and maybe 2. They are not a cup team, but adding Eberle, and having the addtional pts of Pulock, Ho Sang and Barzal make this team better than the team who won their first playoff round two years ago.

Let us not forger also that while I hate Snow, he's now got plenty of picks to throw around at the deadline to improve this roster heading into the playoffs.

Lee - Tavares - Eberle
Ladd - Barzel - Ho-Sang
Nelsen - Beauvillier - Bailey
Chimera - Cizikas - Clutterbuck

I kinda like this line up. However theres lots of question marks.
1) Barzel and Beauviller as 2nd and 3rd line centers can make or break this team.
2) zero grit from the 3rd line, guess they will use the speed
3) can Ladd get a better start this year, and will the 2nd line produce much needed secondary scoring.

Swap Ho-Sang with Bailey cause theyre not gonna have two rookies starting out on the second line. Maybe im in the minority but I think Barzal will do just fine as 2c

This is exactly the kind of thinking that has me worried. Let's not put too much stock in unproven rookies. Remember Strome's first year when it looked like he was going to be a great? These guys have to prove themselves! I thought Ho Sang looked great last year! He was the most fun player to watch. However he only played 21 games. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. There are a lot of question marks on this team.

I'm sure he'll do something really sensible with them. He's known for making a big splash around the deadline.

I unfortunately do not agree. Could it happen yeah of course but the odds certainly don't dictate it. Barzal as a contributor is a stretch without even mentioning anyone else you listed but hey I hope you're right.

Ho Sang was also invisible for the last 10 of those 21 games which Islander fans like to make believe didn't happen.

Youre really looking for a story here, but thats not where i was going. My point, was simply that Capuano and his staff were clearly out of their league while in the NHL. The teams success or lack there of speaks for itself. After years of inconsistencies and overall not winning, a coach who doesnt have the resume, to me plays a factor. When you're winning everything is great......but who's gonna buy into a system that hasnt worked, where the guy preaching it hasnt himself actually succeeded with it.

I think crappy was a terrible coach, my point is.. his pro career is irrelevant

Ho-sang will be at the net before JT is at center ice and Lee is still in Halak's crease, i don't love it

The only way JHS was invisible to you was if you had your eyes close, did he put up points? No. But his play was still good.

He could have had 5 or 10 more points if guys were ready for his passes alone

Exactly, his play was fine. He also drew like two powerplays a game because he is always moving his feet

Oh at least he is so fast and shifty. I wonder if there is a stat for players that draw penalties and the goals created off power plays in general

And my point was that when your system is failing how do you expect an unproven guy to get respect or even have his players practice what he preaches?

I think Barzal is the best draft pick the isles have had since Tavares. He's goin to be just fine as a 2c.

I guess your idea of unproven is different than mine. Ho Sang showed he belonged last season, Pulock should have cracked this lineup two years ago, and Barzal had Tavares esq number in the dub last season. He was mishandled by Capuano.

You think if Barzal takes the 2C spot right away, the Isles trade Josh Bailey while his value, for the time being, is up there? Just wondering.

Meh I'll disagree. He wasn't nearly as dynamic as his first 10 games or so.

We don't even know if he'll make the team out of camp let alone this season barring a rash of injuries. I mean again I hope you're right but we really can't say that Pulock, Barzal, even Ho Sang will improve this team from last season. Out of all the players I just mentioned the most NHL games played by any of them is 21 and the other two combined don't even have that many. I have high hopes for these kids but expecting them to propel this team to the second round or even past it is heaping some unwarranted expectations on them. Especially with this teams history of developing prospects. A ton of unproven and unknowns from the assistant coaches to the head coach to quite a few players. Gomez who hasn't coached a day in his life anywhere for anyone is running our PP which has been a borderline atrocity for years with Weight running it. Some fans have applauded the Gomez signing but based on what exactly? Sorry, I find this strange.

Hey, again, I hope you're right but I just don't see any clear, defining, thing that makes me feel good about this upcoming season. It's hockey I get it anything can happen but what exactly are you basing this on Barzal's numbers in the WHL? Maybe you can elaborate on what exactly it is that makes you think this team is a playoff team that can make it to the conference finals like you stated earlier and make this old man a little happier?

I think this is a different NHL that we grew up with. Back in the 90s the isles called up some young prospect named Ziggy Palffy and he never left. The isles have not done a good job with their youth and as a result we say things like he's not ready for this much responsibility. I disagree. I think when you have the talent that Barzal has, you will assimilate just fine. Sure there will be some hiccups but this kid has legit talent. Given the proper linemates I think you're gonna see Barzal not only take the 2c, but he's gonna keep it too. Speed with hands and the quintessential set up guy...
