It was pretty fair. I don't usually waste my time reading any of his stuff, though this article was pretty tame. |

I'm surprised OJ doesn't get compared to Lindholm more often
What am I missing? Lindholm's probably a bit more dynamic I guess - BobBot
Lindholm is way, way better defensively, even when he was OJ's age he was considered a defense first guy who can make a strong first pass. OJ isn't a shutdown dman, he's more of a skilled PMD, but not dynamic, more in a subtle way.
OJ looks more comfortable on the PP than Lindholm as well. |

1 practice & players lumped together hardly can expect any quality to judge many prospects. Looking for snippets & good signs is all that matters. They all will get advised later on what they need to work on once they join their respective teams. |

Just reading the Vancouver Sun online paper, Botchford is not being kind to Juolevi, apparently didn't have a great game. - LeftCoaster
I didn't watch the game so I can't comment on his play. But the fact Botch complained about him leads me to believe he played great. There is no one in the Vancouver media I dislike more. I hope the Canucks blacklist him. He doesn't know jack sh!t about hockey and he only has a job because he appeals to the less educated fan |

No update from coach Cull on D Aaron Irving or Zack MacEwen, who were both knocked out of the game. "Upper body injury" is all he'd say.
Losing two guys meant a lot of ice for those who did play, another reason it was hard for them to get any rhythm going.
Cull got a twinkle in his eye when he was asked about that 6-on-4 PP that led to the empty-net goal, whether he'd try that in a game situation. Said in those circumstances, he'd probably go for it again! - Carol Schram
luckily he'll have chaput, gaunce and megna to put on the ice every time when down a goal or two |

heres step by step what it seems happens when botchford writes an article....
-is busy arguing with the wife
-gets his 8 yr old kid or nephew to watch the game for him
-storms off to bar to get drunk
-comes home and asks kid what happened in the game, how'd OJ do?
-kid is now realizing he forgot to watch the game and played video games instead
-kid says ya that player sucked tonight
-still drunk botchford starts writing his column based on the kids info
-he publishes the resulting mess
sound about right? |

I think it's hard to be a d man like OJ in this setting ...he can try and make a safe play or the play you'd expect an NHL D to make and the forwards might just not be expecting it ...I'm not saying I thought he played great but I did see little plays where I didn't think he was at fault and a guy more NHL ready up front might have been more prepared for the play from OJ |

To be fair, I read the Vancouver Sun daily, Botchford writes for the Sun, therefore it gives me an indication of what happened. From there I can use other sources of media information to confirm what he's said. It wasn't just Botch that said he had a poor showing, it was pretty much everyone. In this instance, he was right. |

its not so much that OJ didnt have a poor showing, my comment was just "do we even listen to this fool anymore?" Most people feel botchford is the worst sports writer out there |

He wasn't even that bad, he mainly struggled defensively when skating backwards, needs to work on his pivoting technique(also likely adjusting to added weight). He looked fine with the puck on his stick. I think a lot of people who haven't watched him enough just didn't realize what kind of player he really is and now that they've seen him play a bit they're freaking out that he's not Tanev with more offense or Hampus Lindholm 2.0.
Plus he and Brock both know that they're going to main camp, they're not going to play as hard as a guy like Laplante who's trying to impress his new AHL coach so he doesn't end up in the ECHL again.
I remember when people were freaking out over Bo Horvat a few years ago at the rookie tournament.

Bad yesterday was the tryout guys. Barberis, Monyihan. Second line controlled play well in the o-zone. Molino made some nice plays. |

It was a poor showing. He had a rough game and most were metal mistakes that you can't have at the NHL level. If the last game was an indication of his readiness he is not ready. That said its early and anyone can have a bad game. |

He made a handful of mistakes and as you say his skating is a bit off. Everyone has a bad game. There is no hysteria from me. Give him time. |

Botchford is like Taj on Twitter. He rant's, complains, stirs the pot. Thats his shtick.
He's even more comical when he talks NFL.
Must be small man syndrome. |
