I'm not sure if you are suffering from bipolar disorder or are just trying to get a reaction from people. Amazing how the best team in hockey a few months ago isn't even going to make the playoffs now. Even the players they've kept are now "past their peak", despite the glowing praise you heaped on them several months ago.

I'll agree that the team had a bad off-season and is now a worse team. What I won't agree on is that they are so much worse they'll miss the playoffs. They may fall to 2nd or 3rd seed instead of 1st seed and Presidents trophy winners, but they'll still be a playoff team. Hell, maybe they'll avoid Pittsburgh this season and actually do some damage in the playoffs.

The bad contracts and trades the Capitals did this year will come back to bite them, I'm sure. I think their fall from grace will take more than one season though. They'll likely continue to be a playoff team for a couple more years before becoming irrelevant (assuming no brilliant moves to correct course).

P.S. For your own sake please stop telling your readers you'd make a better GM. This just makes you look childish. You remind me of those stereotypical ex-highschool football players that tell everyone they would crush the competition in the NHL if their bad knee (insert appropriate excuse) didn't keep them out of the league.

Are you surprised?

We have clueless hockey parents who claim the same thing.

There's a lot of factors here that I think you're no looking at. The Caps are still a team that's "good enough" to make the playoffs, so if they miss it's not because they're not good enough. You have to look at what's happening around the rest of the division and conference.

1) The Atlantic should have four playoff teams, not three.

2) Other teams in the Metro should be better this year making the race much closer.

Clearly everything is speculation based on "ifs."

Carolina: A team that was much better than their record implied and had a very good off-season. Adding Justin Williams, Darling and TVR. Subtle, but profound moves for a team that was only missing a few key pieces. This is a complete team.

NYI: Some addition through subtraction, more fire power and didn't miss by all that much considering how bad of a season they had. They should be right in the 3rd/4th place mix.

NYR: Loss on offense, but with a considerably better defense than last year should make Hank's life easier. They should also be right in the 3rd/4th place mix.

Caps went from a 1st place team to middle-rung team which gives them more competition.

Imagine the player destination the team would become if tanner was GM? Cody Franson would be locked up to 6x6 and partnered with rundblad. Who would get a one year deal and then signed to am 8x8 extension immediately. This top pairing would become the envy of the NHL. You would be immediately let go upon UFA status and replaced by an obscure junior B player with great shot metrics.

He would never meet with you, the player, personally and would have them up on his roster board according to their CORSI. "We have to trade 49% hes bringing down the 4th line". His coach would be an ipad that uses SIRIs voice to send lines over the boards and every practice would be a statistical FENWICK analysis. Doesnt this scream entertainment?

Not to mention his players would start in the faceoff dot looking the other way so they could skate back real hard to prevent the inevitable shot attempt.

IMO your politics are an opinion and even a Canuck is entitled to one on the USA. Facts are, not many give a hoot what some foreigner cares… maybe they would be taken seriously if they addressed the country in which ou reside. Your music choices are (I’m guessing are okay) for a middle-age person.
From a pure hockey standpoint I like your postings even though I disagree with some of them.
This one on the Capitals is right on the money… this is a business run by Patrick and Leonsis and are a group think management by committee FUBAR organEYEzation. Surprised a leftist finds so much fault with the group think.

Of course you are going to get worse if you lose all those players, however they're not going to drop by 8 spots.

The Capitals were lapping the other teams last year - they had the best roster by such a wide margin. Now they're still going to have a great roster.

There's a better chance they'll win the President's Trophy again than they miss the Playoffs.

If you were an NHL GM you wouldn't last a month. Your superiority complex and your solipsistic personality would alienate you from your peers to the point no one would deal with you. Plus YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOCKEY. Your arogence is laughable sometimes there Jimbodeenie.

The caps will take a step back but I dont see them missing the playoffs.

They still have one of the best goalies in the league and a very good core. They might have to lean on Holtby down the stretch but they'll make it in.

Kuz is overpayed but he's better than he was last season. It's also crazy how often Backstrom gets lost in the shuffle of elite centers.

Hey man, I appreciate the kind words. To be honest with you, there is a contingent of trolls who don't like my politics who would argue with me if I wrote that it's usually dark out at midnight.

But if you eliminate the crazies, response to these blogs is almost always positive and it's a lot of fun either way.

Your politic? These people are not trolls. You say stupid poop so people call you out on it. If you dont want to be called an idiot so often learn the damn game, it isnt that difficult. Caps will be far from missing the playoffs. They might not run away with the Presidents trophy but they will still be in that race.

I'd crush the NHL and win all the awards every year if it wasnt for the fact that I am out of shape, my skating wasnt poor, my hockey skills were better than beer league, I had any kind of willpower and self restraint, I dont care about fitness and if I was a couple years younger. Give me all those things and Id definitely crush it! Crosby would look like a beer leaguer compared to me

For your own sake, don't give people advice. Everyone knows that the difference between any random hockey fan and any random GM is about six bucks and a nice suit. It's the easiest job in the world because 30 of the teams are guaranteed to fail every year.

Hey, you should try thinking outloud and in public sometime, see how consistant you are.

I believe the Caps are going to have a hard time overcoming all the talent they lost. but Past Jimmy makes a good point. I don't think they'll make it today. Ask me tomorrow!

A solipsistic personality would imply that I believe that I am the only one who exists. So either you don't know what that word means, or the fact that I am responding to you is going to collapse the space/time continuum.

I'm not sure what is more irrational about this statement. That you actually think this is true or that you think everyone else thinks the same.

By the way that statement is a fallacy. Specifically an Alleged Certainty.

That's warped logic. I have a blast, and I really enjoy the mean ones cause sometimes they're hilarious. For example, see the insane person above you attempting to be smart while completely missing the fact that he's responding to a joke.

Now that's funny!

I considered that you might be joking there but you so often claim that you can do a better job than most GM's including multiple times in the last week. You also frequently make a statement and are called on it and proven wrong then claim you were just joking. Who can tell! It's the boy who cried wolf.
