That last Pavelec contract will forever be a black mark on Chevy's career. The vets on this team were here from the previous GM. The Jets have drafted very well under Chevy and the contracts for the most part have been good. I wouldn't say great. |

True, though Francis did say that he's turned down trades involving some of his top 7 defensemen, one would assume Sakic has asked for at least one of those guys. - BINGO!
Duchene isnt a smuck either, I think hes worth an NHL dmen...Top 7 Dmen...(frank) you Francis and you building a Dcore |

I do think Francis is going to have to budge on that in order to make it happen. Unless he can somehow convince Sakic to take Roland McKeown or something ridiculous like that. - BINGO!

I'll be really impressed if Ronny gets Sakic to trade Duchene for Josh Bailey and a conditional 2022 3rd rounder |

The NJ Devils changed seating capacity at Prudential Center. The stadium originally had a hockey game capacity of 17,625 and that was reduced to 16,592.
It is less then clear how this was accomplished. Some obstructed view seats were said to be removed and capacity for 'standing room' areas such as in the Goal Bar were also reported to be removed from the total. Some reports suggest that the adjustment included changes in luxury box capacity perhaps meaning standing room numbers were removed from there as well.
There are also some claims that at (unfortunately rare) times reported game capacity has exceeded the 16,592 figure.
Since this happened during the Lou Lamoriello era it was also kept fairly quiet and it's not generally known exactly what did or didn't happen. Welcome to Devilville. |

Sens are removing seats so they have a better chance at selling out playoff games. - 1993_Cup_Champs
They could take out ten thousand seats and they still won't sell out a playoff game! |

Kind of silly to do it in a season where the Senators aren't making the playoffs anyway. |

I can't remember if it went up or down, but 2 years ago, the Sabres changed the seating capacity to 19,070 as an homage to the year the team was founded (1970) |

In the football hotbed market of LA, Rams have reduced 10k seats in their second year. Chargers are playing in a soccer stadium that's roughly 1/3rd to a half the size of normal stadiums.

Ah yes...very similar to what Bettman does on the States to skew attendance figures in ARZ, DAL, NJ, FLA, CAR...etc etc etc |
|
|

As a Sens fan, I'm not sure what the point of removing seats is.
It would be one thing if they removed them, and put a bar there or some kind of fun area, but nope.. they are just throwing a tarp over them. How stupid is that?
So instead of seeing empty seats in the upper ends, you'll see a tarp over those seats?
Games against Tor/MTL/Van/Cal/Edm always sell out. So they are just going to forgo that cash?
In the playoffs last year, they didn't sell out one game. They still had the highest attendance of any of the 4 teams who made the conference finals...... because they had the biggest building. Why give up that revenue?
If the Sens make the playoffs next season, I guarantee Melnyk is going to take the tarp off those seats and sell them as usual. Considering all the guy does is cry poor, it makes no sense whatsoever to give up that revenue.
If this is the best idea Tom Anselmi has, then he's gotta go.
Now that addidas has taken over and there is only one set of jerseys per team, the fans were screaming for the 'O' logo for our home jerseys this season and the guy ignores us.
Then his brilliant idea is to take seats away from the building, like that's going to create more demand and a better atmosphere? |

Bettman wasn't skewing the attendance figures in Raleigh. The Hurricanes themselves were.
The sudden steep drop in numbers in Raleigh is due to the team reporting the number of actual butts in the seats now, not including the number of freebie tickets they were giving away.
It's how they were able to actually report a profit last season for the first time in 8 years despite having their lowest average reported attendance. Had nothing to do with Bettman. Everything to do with the previous management group. |

Good points and I'm sure you are correct for the most part...but you can take your next two years worth of paychecks to the bank that Bettman is involved somehow, however small. Especially in ARZ and DAL |

Agree removing seats is monumentally stupid. Plus one has to think about the other events that the building might be hosting other than hockey. Lots of intangibles.
Bottom line is once the economy picks up even more people will have more money and time to go to games and they will wish they had those extra seats back.
