I started looking and I'm mixed up. Lindberg it was. My memory is fading.
But I did learn something today. I didn't know that Terry Sawchuk was killed by a team mate over living expenses.
"Sawchuk and Rangers teammate Ron Stewart, both of whom had been drinking, fought over expenses for the house they rented together on Long Island, New York. Sawchuk suffered severe internal injuries during the scuffle from falling on top of Stewart's bent knee."

Check out Ryan Biech twitter. Has a goal Tree scored. I hate you WD. Same as Bertuzzi said about Chara. Got rid of him too early. |

don't get too excited. He wouldn't be able to pull that off on any team in the NHL. |

If the team actually sells a couple of more vets for more picks at this TDL then eventually you will see a deeper prospect pool, less of a need for stopgap vets and more internal competition.
The issue is that they should have been using the sign and flip strategy since the day took over since of tossing around draft picks/prospects to "fill the age gap". They filled that age gap with a bunch of role players and some overpaid vets. None of the guys they brought in will be apart of the core once the team is on the rise again.
Better late, than never. But still stupid as (frank) for delaying the inevitable and trying that stupid ass age gap nonsense.
"Hey the last GM really (frank)ed me over with his bad drafting/development, maybe I should trade away my future picks and current prospects to try and patch that up by trading for cast-offs from other teams, and then leave myself thinner that I should be in the future with my own picks/prospects" - Nucker101
Please list the draft picks moved and how these prospects would stack up against the players in the system. How did these moves set back core developement?
It's not like JB was trading 1st rounders for 30 year olds. He did have some misses. Like Vey. Yes GM's make mistakes on gambles just like draft picks who don't work out. With any move, trade, draft and signing it's all risk and some reward.
Just want to know if a player like Sven who is NHL quality and good be moved later for a piece is a bad move. As you know 2nd rounders usually project for bottom six roles if they make it.

Meh, good goal but don't see him doing that on the smaller ice surface. He had so much room that as big as he is, he looked average sized on that wing. |

Yeah sweet power move. This is why I think Tree went to KHL. To work on his game and develop some offensive part to it as well.
He said in interviews he needed more ice time and wanted a better role. Looking at Canucks roster with vets still there it probably wasn't the year for him. I'll take the career development factor over locker room rumors or JB's deflection on family for his failure excuse to sign him.
Either way Tree will gain value and if that is a Canuck return or trade it still works for the rebuild. |

Forcing players into roles they are not comfortable with is called Player Development.
It's all about perspective son. |

You realize when you get hired for any job on earth, you can't just go in and completely do whatever the (frank) you want right? On day one after getting hired, you don't have the free-reign to tell your boss/owner of the company, "hey dude, you've been doing a sh^t job for the last x amount of years, so i'm gonna go ahead and completely tear this (frank)er down and build it back up my way." That's not how business/reality operates.
Like in every job on the planet, he still has to follow orders. So coming in and blaming him for not taking the club in the direction that you wanted it, its kinda insane. In reality, the kinda changes you expected him to make are not that simple. He, like everyone else that's been hired for a job, doesn't want to get fired, and i'm sure has to follow some sort of mandate. So for example,on day 3, he comes into work and goes, its pump and dumps from here on out a$$holes, or I'm trading the Sedins! I'm pretty (frank)ing well sure, he gets poop canned, for even suggesting that.
And here's a list of the trades he's made, its really not that bad. I'm not saying he's a great GM, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I could've done a better job.

To be fair, I am not sure Nucker has had a job. It's pretty hilarious when people assume Benning is driving the bus and Aquilini isn't involved |

That's what pisses me off. The fact that Dahlen has to leapfrog another prospect. I don't care if he's ready or not. I'm going to be selfish.
I want to cheer for my team.
I want to be excited for the season regardless of the potential wins and loses.
I want to see passion and hustle and speed and determination on the ice regardless of how reckless and defensively irresponsible it may be.
I want to see players fighting for their roster spot and pay cheque with the knowledge that a bigger payday is ahead, not behind them.
I can't do that with this year's roster the way it's shaping up other than a few players. Oh well, there's always the season after this one. Or maybe the one after that. - bloatedmosquito

That's impossible. Benning wouldn't draft the same players as other GM's, how am I suppose to just guess who he'd pick?
I had this same argument back then, I'd rather take the more volatile asset in the 2nd or 3rd rounder over the AHL prospect.
Draft Pick = Lower floor, higher ceiling asset
Prospect other team is willing to trade = higher floor, lower ceiling asset
For a rebuilding team, the goal is to find future difference makers and core players. The asset with the lower floor, but higher ceiling is the one I'd want. Young 3rd liners and 4/5 dmen ain't gonna turn this ship around..and those can be found in free agency every year. |

Standard KHL contracts allow player out on buying remaining salary portion. Most NHL singing bonuses would cover that. The real money on KHL contracts is not in salary but bonuses.
Coming back from NHL his agent probably added more leverage for him to be able to leave. |

Jesus, that kind of tragedy rarely happens. Who was the last? I think the leafs had a really promising goalie who was killed after he was drafted. I can't even think of a similar situation.
Anyway, sorry I brought it up. - bloatedmosquito
