Agree, shouldn't be on that list. I don't think Edler, Bieksa, or Jovo should be ahead of Salo.
And I don't think Ohlund or Lumme had the same skill level as Salo. But it depends on how you're scoring it I guess. - bloatedmosquito
Put it this way. There is a reason we have never won a cup, if those are considered even in our top 10 best d-men of all time for the Canucks. |

I agree....some appear to be disapointed because it doesn't appear he will be a true No 1 but he should still be a stud. I wouldn't be shocked if he makes the team this year. - CanuckDon

Yeah and what makes a #1D now is changing so we shall see.
If the weight of 180lbs listed for young stars is accurate over the 200lbs at development camp then that's not a good sign he was able to put on muscle strength. Which to me is the only thing keeping him back from being ready for the NHL.

Do you know how they come up with that list? Is it using past official stats...? Like Carol pointed out that Brisebois was heavier. So what gives? |

Believe it or not, Parros has been widely regarded as one of the most intelligent NHLers for some time. The Sporting News ranked him the most intelligent in the NHL and 4th within all sports in 2013. Graduating from Princeton with a 3.18 while majoring in economics and scoring 1250 SATs will do that.
Parros is an excellent choice for this role for a number of reasons, both on and off the ice. - As_I_See_It

Bieksa has never been anything more than a pylon - Codes1087
Sounds like the view of a new-gen fan
Bieksa was a force on this team before his age and playing style caught up to him.
His first full season he put up 12 goals and 42 points lol. Had he not been sidelined with shortened seasons due to injury, he likely could have had 4 or 5 more years of plus 40 points on top of the three he actually accomplished.
He was a 2-way warrior in his twenties. |

Been a fan for along time, and have NEVER liked Bieksa. I have never appreciated or liked the type of game that he brings. Bieksa, to me, has always been a super one dimensional d-men, whos style is slowly starting to become extinct in the league. |

All the same, he definitely cracks the top 10 at the very least. Now, whether y'all want to attribute that to Vancouver's overall lack of quality D, so be it. |

I wouldn't say he cracks my top 10, if I'm being honest. Great character guy, but on the ice not so great IMO. |

It's true, but in 4 out of 6 of his years he was the best defender in a Canucks uniform |

Playing devils advocate, had Hamhuis not gone down with injury in the finals, who knows how that would have gone....

Honestly, I feel any contact penalty (like boarding/checking from behind/headshot/slashing/spearing/kneeing/etc.) should be an automatic 5min major penalty and a game misconduct. If the NHL would have the balls to do that, you'd get a LOT of the Marchands of the world out of the game and cut down on injuries and eliminate so-called 'hockey plays' which are euphemisms for wanting to light someone up and send a message. - DariusKnight
exactly what Im saying.
Not so sure automatic penalty is the right way though, since you'll get guys turning their backs to you at the last second to draw the automatic penalty. So refs discretion is needed. |

Maybe you want to reword that and just make the contact ones double. Leave the 2 minutes to these minor delay of game or unsportsmen like infractions.
Though I wouldn't be opposed to what Darius suggested on potential dangerous ones to be 5 and a game. - Nuck4U
either way of doing it it doesnt really matter to me.
I'll say this for making penalties longer. You'll not likely take that penalty if you know youre sitting for 4 min and your coach will bench you for it |
