Here is one comparison that I will put on the table that I haven't seen approached. We always here about McDavid being 1 and Eichel being 1A. I find this is absurd and totally bullsh!t. Eichel is not at McDavid's level on or off the ice.

A more reasonable comparison might be Mitch Marner to Eichel. Marner scored 61 points in 77 games - which works out to .79 points per game. Eichel has scored 113 points in 143 games which surprisingly works out to .79 points per game. Now Eichel scores more goals (.335 compared to .247 per game for Marner) however Eichel is a -29 for his career and Marner is even (on a team that was not sharp defensively last year)

In addition, it would be reasonable to expect that Marner will improve on his rookie numbers, but that is conjecture. So while Garth's preposterous statements are not unexpected - he is out to lunch.

FYI you are wrong about the Kane versus JvR comparion btw.... we learned a few weeks back that JvR is "washed up" from the Jets fans.... kind of a Spatso thing

He will get a big payday. The Sabres show very little in the way of good judgement from a cap perspective.

One of many things differentiate the Leafs and the Sabres at this point is the Sabres don't really have any team friendly good contracts, while the Leafs are loaded with them.

Examples :

O'Rielly cap hit $7.5 (made $11 million salary last year and will make $9 million this year for 20 goals and 55 pts) Good on faceoffs - big (frank)en deal a sh!t contract that will (frank) the Sabres for 6 more years.
Okposo - $6 million cap hit, brutal contract for six more years 45 points, 19 goals ($7 million salary)
Jason Pominville $5.6 million cap hit, ($5 million salary) two more years, he's 34, and scored 47 points with 13 goals last year.
Matt Moulson - $5 million cap hit, ($5 million salary) 2 more years, he's 33 and scored 14 goals and 32 points last year

In addition, head case Evander Kane is a UFA after this year - He will be on the move and the picks the the Sabres will get, will depend on his stats this year. Needless to say he is worth considerably less than JVR right now.

All of the Leafs players aren't as good as we think they are. Man, it sucks cheering for such a loser franchise. I might become a fan of a team with more promise, and a better history like the Sens or Sabres.

Wennberg was selected 14th by the Blue Jackets in 2013 and scored 59 points (13 goals, 46 assists) in his third full campaign with Columbus last season (two points less than Nylander) and signed a six-year, $29.4 Million extension ($4.9 Million AAV) on Friday.

If Nylander matches his rookie totals, Toronto appears to be in a better position to get him signed to a deal closer to Wennberg than to Draisaitl. The only way that his price tag escalates is if he has a breakout year like 2014 Draft classmate and friend David Pastrnak did last season.
