If this is what he asked for I would say he and Benning are not t he idiots we think they are. - thundachunk
I don't think Green is an idiot at all. I was impressed with the structure he had Utica pay with. His system kept them in a playoff race despite having one of the least talented rosters in the AHL last year. I do think he's veterans coach for sure and fans will be annoyed at times with how he handles the youth and spoonfeeds the vets, but I doubt his lines/ice time management will be as bad as WD's.
Benning has made some bad mistakes in the past, but I don't have any real issues with anything he's done since signing Eriksson to that horrible contract so hopefully he's learning from his mistakes. |

Of course TG wants to win that's his job. If getting more offense from Granlund gets him there he will do it.
TG signed a long term contract as HC for a team that was expected to and did finish second last in the league. Bar isn't high. Development of younger players is a measure of success for him in rookie year. Especially if he can have them out play the Sedins. - Nuck4U
Didn't Dallas Green do that too?

He is babysitting them . That is being held back - VANTEL
It's just easier to overlook the invisible games stretches he has because he's way cheaper, doesn't mean he's a better player. He got top 6 minutes last year and put up 32 points....we used to rip Higgins/Raymond for doing the same thing.
No one on this poopty ass roster is being held back by a lack of ice time. Only player who can make that claim is Horvat, who should be getting the most ice time at 5v5 and ES on this roster. Everyone else is actually getting too many minutes in the NHL if you ask me, these guys wouldn't be getting the same ice time on good teams. |

Agreed 100%
Developing players is secondary to him. I 100% think he laid out what he wanted Benning to go out and get at the start of the summer.
1) PMD partner for Tanev
2) Help with secondary scoring and PP
3) More veteran depth in general
I think he's a better systems coach than WD, but I don't think he's going to make life easy for the young guys. - Nucker101
TG is not here to gift spots and turn the team into a bunch of rookies. Especially if he's got the Sedins on the roster. But he can develop those younger players on team with better vet players around them. That's seems the development plan for next season or two with how contracts are set up.

Pretty much. Ideally, most of the stopgaps were only signed to 1 year deals..maybe 2 years max but oh well. But this is the strategy most of us have been wanting for years. Better late than never. |

Not including the defence I like the Gagne and Vanek signings. I think the mix of youth and veterans is pretty good. I think we have a pretty solid team right now. I see a big improvement from last season ahead. |

I like the additions, but to me this is still a crappy roster full of guys who are going to be asked to do more than they can. But if they buy into Green's system then I can see them in a lot of 1 goal games.

I'm in transit here but a 2 million dollar contract all but guarantees his spot, if he gets waived your GM just threw 1.2 million dollars in cap space out the window and he'd be fired on the spot. If Aquilini has the business sharps Donnie professes. - LeftCoaster
When did I ever defend Aquilini |

I would agree but to vantels point is there really any benefit to missing the playoffs by 4 points? Either be "real good" or take a top 5 pick. The middle of the standings doesn't help us. |

Thats when its up to a good coach to get the most out of them. Straight ip I want to see more goals win or lose. This team needs to find their scoring touch. |

Vanek is your guys then. He's the kind of guy who''s get you 20-25 more goals but also float like a lazy (frank) and cost you goals against. So the differential is about the same but we get more 4-2 losses instead of 3-1 |
