I think the biggest positive about the Vanek signing, with him boeser and Gagner there is no spot for Sutter on the powerplay. On the negative side getting farther away from Dahlin

In my opinion, our forwards are better than Jersey (I Guess Nico could change that, but Hall sucks), Detroit and a few other teams. Though, that's not saying much.

I don't mind the Vanek signing, maybe he can score 20 goals and some foolish team will pay a first for him at the deadline.

It's Thomas bloody Vanek.
He is not going to have that much of an influence on the team overall.
Merely depth.
We'll occasionally lose 4-3 now, instead of 4-2.

Edit: The best part is he is now going to be apart of every single trade package until the TDL.

I honestly don't necessarily hate the signing but it signals a few things.

1. Between the likes of Vanek, Gagne, Burmistrov, MDZ and perhaps Weirchoch and White, it appears as though (in my mind),ownership and not management, is at it again with yet another attempted playoff push. An irrational one I might add.

2. Clearly, the kids such as Goldobin, Virtanen, Dahlen* and OJ are on the outside looking in, on a team that is marketing a "new wave"/youth movement approach.

3. Much like Gagne, Vanek is a PP specialist/perimeter player who has never been capable of back-checking and can no longer skate. For those of you penciling him in on the 4th line that's a horrendous idea.

4. I have to say, the team IS much better on paper then last year, which at this point in the so-called yet never realized rebuild, is a bad thing. Watch us finish outside the playoffs and more importantly, outside the top 5 or even 10 in drafting.

All in all, its an off-season that leaves me
