I really struggle supporting such a soft team...exactly why the Dorsett hate infuriates me

Other sports don't shut down their season for three weeks during their season.

Yeah, but the NHL arguably benefits more from the Olympics than vice versa. Millions of casual TV watchers around the globe will always watch the Olympics but that's not the case for NHL/hockey.

I understand that the NHL is hoping that sitting out one year will help with long term leverage but if it backfires then Bettman is going to look really bad.

I like Dorsett as an energy player, he is actually pretty good at hockey when stops picking dumb fights and then proceeds to get thumped. I love that he sticks up for his teammates but IMO he is more concerned with being an Alpha

No one is afraid of getting hit by or fighting Dorsett. Any 200+ lb dman just bounces off of his checks and no team is thinking twice about hitting a Canuck just because he's out there. The issue is that he used to be a pretty decent bottom 6 hockey player that could stay relatively healthy and now he's injured and regressed as a player. He's also overpaid. On a Labate-White-Dorsett line, he'd be the least intimidating to play/fight against.

Ryan White is just as good(can actually play C so arguably more valuable) and we got him on a (frank)ing PTO. Benning paid a 3rd rounder plus 2.5M for basically the same type of player.

Paying a premium for these random intangible depth players is infuriating to me.

Every time they think the little weasel screws up the NHL comes back bigger and stronger. The NHL shouldn't care about the Olympics. It will continue to grow regardless

Here is my question , do you really care about the Olympics now that the NHL is not going? I don't . Who needs who?

I obviously care less, but I'll still watch. I assume most of us watch more sports than just hockey and enjoy cheering for our great country.

When I watch the World jrs I don't cheer for Canada I cheer for Canuck prospects. I have seen too many sporting events now to care. I know if Canada lose something they will win something else in 6 months.

Even though I was hoping to draft Canadian center Cody Glass, I now hope Sedish center Pettersson has a better career.

I cheer for Mariners more that Team Canada's Blue Jays. You cheer for NFL over CFL.
There is just too much exposure to sports to always be wearing a flag.

Olympics in 2 years but Degrasse was just raced last month and so did Bolt. BTW I cheer for Bolt

That's why I find it funny. They're out of the Olympics and started a crappy World Cup plus they dropped ESPM coverage on their last US TV deal. ESPN is broadcast much more internationally than NBC sports.

Just seems like they're all over the place with their goals.

- Nucker101

i agree but there is a common thread among the decisions: short term monetary gain.

what doesn't get enough attention is how they vastly undersold their digital rights last tv deal. they took the quick buck and sold the entire digital rights with the broadcast rights.

people are obviously moving away from traditional tv and so the rights they sold for the next half decade would have been great for generating new streams of revenue. just look at mlb.

I think your point is valid as people in other markets will watch the hockey games less with a downgraded product. Star power sells. New fans seeing these stars through Olympic exposure would want to see them again in NHL games. The multiplier effect. It worked for the volleyball circuit for example.

Not really. It boils down to there is too much sports available to see every day . The glory of the Olympics a very crooked and corrupt corporation is losing its luster.

Do it your way you get one trade . Do it my way you get two trades. I like my way better
- VANTEL

That's separate from the tandem #1 issue. You can still have two trades if that's what you want. It doesn't have to start this season. You got them locked up to 2020 and 2021.

So hanging on to two back ups with a strong draft class gets you nothing.

Anyways you can hang on yo your two back ups I would move mine.

the olympics isn't the issue. the quality of hockey played is incredible. much better than the world cup.

the world cup as a replacement is getting hamburger when you're expecting steak.

i understand that it's difficult for the league to shut down for 3 weeks. however, let that be a reward to the fans that watch tuesday night games in the middle of january/february against the likes of carolina or phx.

i just know that i feel ripped off that we don't get to see the best hockey tournament outside the stanley cup playoffs. everything else is just millionaires and billionaires arguing over a few more bucks.

Lol now they are only backups and you want to sign a back up. Okay.

If you want to move assets this season to acquire picks the Canucks have plenty of more candidates then their unproven goaltenders. But we can agree to disagree.

I am not agreeing to nothing. How many games did Nilsson or Markstrom play last year? They were both BACK UPS

Not trading for assets then you don't have Gadjich, no Palmu , No Goldobin , No Dahlen.

You should be trading players every year.

I can't believe people would argue about losing Markstom or Nilsson

Markstrom 108 NHL games in 8 years

Nilsson 81 games in 5 years
