what are we showcasing though? China has a team in the KHL right now. - Codes1087
which is strange. You'd think there wouldnt be any demand for hockey in china. Perhaps hockey has some interest along the china / russia border where theres lots of ice. |

Colorado, Jersey and Vegas for sure....after that, it could be the Canucks or Detroit. |

Your missing the point. Better schedule = less injuries, less injuries= playoffs, playoffs = pom pom's

Thanks for the confirmation Carol, although you might find some here who would argue the Sedins are not NHLers. - belcherbd

They don't give a poop about hockey/football, the NBA does well in China though. |

If you want to showcase the NHL, send McDavid, send Crosby, Send Matthews, send a team with a talented young player that will showcase what the NHL has to offer. Don't send one of the worst teams in the west lol |

The Canucks and Kings are being sent because half of our citizens are Asian not because they are good teams. I agree with you though |

I remember reading a few Canucks articles about Laurence and Linden and a few other Canucks Management, along with some former Canucks players going over to China and seeing that China actually has an interest in the NHL, and like you said, the Canucks specifically. Could be the Richmond connection (I can say without being racist), could be the fact that we had Richard Park a while back (Korean I know). |

They are building a fanbase by acquiring NA hockey players with Chinese heritage to attract more to their fanbase and get ready for the 2022 Olympics. 1 former teammate of mine is on the KHL squad; a few others I've played with/against are signed with them and playing for their minor league team |

actually it does make some sense to send vancouver. Remember Van has a huge population of asian people whereas edmonton or pittsburg wont. Their Relatives in china may support the team since we have no NBA.
but player wise Id have to agree with you. Not that a newbie would know the difference between McDavid and skille though |

Yup.
A veteran heavy team heading to China to promote the NHL.
I'm pretty sure that promoting the NHL with the current Canuck roster is the epitome of an oxymoron. - Marwood
The promoting of the NHL will be the responsibility of the LA Kings, the Canucks will play the part of the Washington Generals. |

Discussions will rage on how bad the Canucks will be this season and next. Codes stated it well that with D&D the Sedins will get replaced in about 2/3 years.
Any improvements now won't turn the team into a contender but any means. Just part of the process on a rebuild. Thus, the challenge for TG is can he raise the level of players he's got now to produce better then the Sedins.

do you really think that the majority of the people who will go to the exhibition games will really care about the quality of the play? let alone, be knowledgeable enough to recognize good play or star players?
this is a big league sports spectacle that features recognizable city names for the potential "fans."
showcasing the play on the ice is secondary to just showcasing the league from the media coverage of the "spectacle." |

I know you said maybe Boeser but I might as well say maybe Goldobin for all that's worth.....before anyone jumps in, yes I believe Boeser will be better and is likely better now but 9 games or whatever it was don't mean much to me.
I have Horvat, Sedins, Eriksson, Tanev, Edler, Gagner, Baertschi, Sutter all better than Granlund, Stecher and Boeser.

Not one poster has predicted playoffs but carry on. The most optomistic poster has predicted a 20th place finish. You negative nancies are too much sometimes |

Don't really give a poop about the team's performance. Only things that matter:
1) Continuing a proper rebuild
2) Cap/asset management
3) Prospect/young roster player development
Yes, we complain about the poop roster, but that's far from the biggest complaint. And no Benning/Linden supporter can defend some of the (frank) ups they've made in those 3 areas. |
