That's yet to be determined, they could draft a kid of Matthews calibre within the next three years and they'll be good again.
Which is exactly what happened to the Leafs. |

Except the Leafs have also drafted two other very good young players before in Marner and Nylander....
I'm not saying you're wrong, obviously they wouldn't have had as much success without their best player but you could make that case for any team.
Hell Tampa missed the playoffs without Stamkos! And they're a pretty good team! |

you can sit back, finish 4-7 and hope against overwhelming odds that happens to the nucks.
or you can bottom out, finish dead last the next 2 years and figure you can be at least drafting top 3 once; if not better.
at this point, you guys are going down the fluke road. |

Oh for sure, I'm saying that he's wrong if he thinks that's an absolute, it may in fact not be. In 2014/2015/2016 the Leafs were garbage, but, they turned it around with three good picks which added so much to the good players they already had in place.
The Canucks have drafted two great young players in Juolevi and Pettersson, let's not discount them until they've proven themselves. It took a couple years for Marner and Nylander to develop before Matthews arrived.
Lets see how it plays out, it's certainly not a given fact the Canucks are five years away, they may be, but they might not be. |

sens are an irrelevant mediocre team that over achieved.
they're not the benchmark we are shooting for. |

Hardly, they finished second and third last the past two years, they didn't improve the team other than to add two players with more offensive games.
They'll be bottom three again this year...I'd put money on it. |

Your hatred for them masks what's really going on there. They've got some good young players, you just can't see it.
It could easily be said Marner, Matthews and Nylander overachieved last year and you can expect them to fall back to earth as teams know how to check them better and the sophomore slumps sets in....two can play at that game.
The Sens are a good team whether you and your brothers believe so or not. |

The Leafs finished behind them in the standings, so what are you saying about the Leafs? They have a couple flashy players but they're pretty mediocre as well? |

I've read this argument 1000 times since the Leafs have young players (never before that mind you). I'm gonna be all over this like a fat kid on smarties towards the end of next season.
No doubt, the big 3 will be in for whatever a 3rd year slump is called. |

i don't think you guys are bad enough to finish bottom 3.
you gotta figure if you do, the lottery balls will finally bounce your way. |

Again, you can't see the forest for the trees. Their best players are in their 20's, they have the best defensemen in the league, their goaltending was solid, they defend well as a team....they draft really well for a team that hasn't had a top five pick since 2001, sixteen years ago, and that was because they traded Yashin to the Islanders.
