The Flyers had an 84.5% PK%, tied for 6th in the league during the glorious 06-07 season, along with the 13 SHGs created. They had some great goaltending and defense that year, didn't they? I find it hard to buy that it's talent related. Well, I should say optimized talent related. You see teams with league bottom goaltending or mediocre defense have top PKs and then you at times see the opposite also holding true.....because it's its own thing, with its own strategies.
I do wonder, statistically, if forwards have a greater effect than defense on the PK. It's the forwards who do the pressing and aggressive play and any SH chance generating and covering the primary QBs along the wall/point. While defense stays closer in front playing zone. Don't know that any study has been done. But there have been studies on the aggressiveness of PKs offensively manifesting in having a better overall PK, with the drawbacks defensively being nil. And we see the Flyers' paltry numbers. And we know they play passive defensively too. - Mononoke
When the Flyers acquired Chris Pronger, it was Pronger and Timonen out against top PP units whenever possible. Talent makes a big difference. It may be a different kind of talent, but talent none the less.

He was as rare a specimen in the game as you'll ever see. Probably in top 2 or 3 Philadelphia athletes I had to pleasure to watch live. - Pelle31Forever
Only Rocky Balboa Michael Vick or Andy Reid can match that size and talent. |

I was unaware and missed the memo that the discussion on the PK was now limited to the 06/07 season. My apologies.

I keep Reid most winning coach in Eagles history adding Iverson instead of Rocky and replacing Vick with Bobby Clarke or with Utley Schmidt Hamels from the Phillies |

Just wish that he could have brought a cup to Philly. He was a dominent force in hockey back then. Legion of Doom was for real. - brubacca
yes, thought they would of least made it a series in 97. or at least got back for another chance in a different year. |

Hockey started for me like this...no one in my family watched or liked it.
First thing I remember is watching the news and I believe it was Gary Papa doing like a 2 or 3 minute segment on Lindros and Recchi as the new exciting young kids on the flyers
Then I remember one year Halloween while trick or treating we stopped in at one of my friend's neighbors house or something and they had a hockey game on. I remember watching and thinking what the heck is this. Not understanding it.
Never had cable growing up. So flyers were on channel 17 maybe once a week if I was lucky. I watched a little bit by myself in my basement where I had a tv, horrible quality with the rabbit ears looked like a snowstorm. Hardest thing was understanding the rules but once I got that down I was hooked. The Flyers were just starting to get good this is 95-96. Watching the legion of doom just dominate and cycle shift after shift little did I know how special they were at the time.
Playoff games weren't on TV for the most part, listened to them on the radio in particular recalling the series with Florida teams around that time.
It was all about reading the TV guide and seeing which night the flyers were playing. Would never miss it |

Philly athletes we had pleasure watching...
I wasn't really old enough for all of Lindros, and like Just5, hockey wasn't introduced to me by my family. Basketball was my sport and the 76ers were my team growing up... you older guys' Lindros is what Iverson was to me. My dad was one of the team dentists for the 76ers from 95-06 (or 07) and I had the absolute pleasure of watching Iverson go from rookie to arguably the best player in the league. I went to every home game in those years and every playoff game minus the championship series against the Lakers (due to vacation). If you guys remember, sports cards were huge in the 90s and my love for basketball cards made me stumble upon hockey cards. I'll never forget my first hockey card being a holographic Lindros card and funny enough that's how I got into hockey. Even funnier... I randomly found this Lindros card no more than a month ago in my bedroom after going 10+ years thinking I lost it. |

When Lindros left the Flyers after 8 seasons, he was 5th all-time in points-per-game behind Lemieux, Gretzky, Bossy, and Orr. That's as good as it gets. |
