Drawing major conversation on twitter. What is the rule for those coming from major juniors? I wonder if comparison here is like college juniors getting drafted by MLB compared to high school seniors or international signees. - airjan23
I really don't see what they can do
it's a risk drafting a player that's committed to go to college, all the teams know the risk at this point
it is one of the reasons I am glad we didn't draft Mittelstadt, even though we are one of the teams with lowest risk
in 1979 the Rangers selected Doug Sulliman at #13 over Brian Propp because Sulliman's was best friend's with Don Maloney
in the book Thin Ice: A Season in Hell with the NY Rangers by Ratso Sloman, a few players talk about how dumb that was.
That's a great book if you ever get a chance to pick it up - jimbro83
I read both great books, "Thin Ice", and Jan's mentioned, "Losing The Edge". In relation to your words on how Mike Keenan is always welcomed back here, but not Neil Smith, another great book to have read would be that one word titled book, "KEENAN".
He was never welcomed back in St. Louis, known for having the most pleasant sports fans, especially for their baseball, Cardinals. I recall his first return there after replacing the fired, Tom Renney as Vancouver coach, when the fans had banners with various slogans mocking him, in addition to chanting throughout that game, "Keenan sucks". That was worse than the initial abuse Rangers fans gave him in returning as Blues coach, where he even challenged their fans' favorite in Shanahan.
Then in Vancouver was that infamous night of mocking his whipping boy in Trevor Linden in between periods of one game, when Linden reportedly was trying to spur on his teammates as their leader. Keenan ranted him numerously using the "F" slur word. I recall the most unforgettable line he used, that was later heard throughout the league. Those words, (I believe close to exact), on Linden were, "who are you, and what have you ever done here?"
Maybe had Keenan gone on to coach the Islanders to join Smith as their GM, would have also resulted in either Keenan also not being welcomed back here in any form, or in Keenan and Smith both being welcomed back instead, because it's more likely that either one would not have won that 1994 Cup without the other one's assistance as well.
Rangers need to sign a few players, especially ones that could fill a bottom six role. Stafford was one option, Daniel Winnik is another. There are lots of free agents still out there who might be solid fits, either on a PTO or one year, minimal dollar deal. Some examples might be Jiri Hudler, John Mitchell and P.A. Parenteau. Plus you know my view who I really want. - airjan23
... Jagr ... (of the Tom Renney era). But really, to also supply some of the leadership lost from the departures of Stepan and Girardi.
Back in a separate relation to the worst trades of 1963 to 1994 (Rick Middleton for Ken Hodge), there was another "oldie" besides Hodge that was separately acquired to play in those same two '76/77 and '77/78 seasons here that Hodge played in part, in yet another right winger on the downside end of his Northstars career in Bill Goldsworthy.
Remember back then Jan & those others just old enough here like me, the "Hodgie and Goldie, we will be soon folding", slogan heard in some of the old BLUE SEATS at MSG in those horrific '76/77 and '77/78 seasons, after the horrible preceding '75/76 season?
More important, Hurricane Harvey looking like it's going to be the first "category 3" hurricane to hit U.S. landfall since 2005. Our prayers for those in the Gulf area states.
Just pray that the 4th named tropical storm for this season doesn't develop into a hurricane and hit the U.S. mainland.
The reason why???
That 4th storm is named "DON".
America cannot survive two "DON'S" simultaneously, with the 1st one landing here having caused enough already, before hopefully leaving the shore soon after passing through the D.C. area.

And I was NOT the first one on this blog to speak politics!
I should have ended that post by saying, "after passing through the D.C. area".
I will actually edit it now.
More seriously:
According to FEMA, "Texas is about to suffer a serious disaster". Our prayers again for those in the Gulf area to survive Hurricane Harvey.
MLB should be embarrassed by these suspensions. So light, it's not even funny. - airjan23
With the way the Tigers season is going, a 30 or more games suspension would have killed them in September as far as attendance means goes in Detroit.
MLB, just like after that lockout with the Steroids Era following, will do anything possible to be sure that the money will continue to be flowing in.

The home plate ump should be suspended, granted he's a newer ump but he really turned that into a cluster (frank), no warnings then Cabrera isn't even hit, Betances clearly isn't throwing at McCann, doesn't get initially tossed then does, then Robertson hits the next batter and they realize it wasn't intentional then, IMO Wilson should have gotten 10 plus games

I think you've cleverly covered what not to discuss in here in that post, Saver - politics and religion

As they should. Leagues operate to make money. Well not the NHL, but most leagues.
First, and most critical again, our best prayers for those affected by this monster hurricane Harvey, to survive it safely.
Thanks again, Peter. But it's an extremely low volume, near end of the summer day here today on this site. At least I was able to fool you by that "Don" post, with you not catching on as per the "details side" of it, to see that the U.S. does now officially pose two dangers.
Tropical storms for the season are named in alphabetical order. Since this #8 one is named "Harvey", it signifies that "Don" (an earlier storm #4) had already occurred.
But yet, "Don" continues to survive on U.S. landfall somehow near D.C., despite the forces against of Mother "Law" Nature.

This really looks like it could be catastrophic. Galveston of course had that infamous 1900 hurricane when nobody at that time thought a hurricane could hit that West. There was a great 2 hour History channel doc on that hurricane years ago, back when they still made quality programming.
