Kerfoot may THINK he's ready to play in the NHL what he's not ready for is the dumpstervfire he's going to in Colorado - Bobd62
Hot Takes, Avs wont be as bad as people think they will
They wont be a great team but they will be a team that you will think they arent far off with what they are icing for their young core 2.0
They actually for once have a vision and an identity that they are trying to build (and have been building towards teh past 8 months with their smaller moves)
Refreshing to know they going to stick to this and not get blinded by winning now iwht a sneaky playoff appearance

Avs can only get better. If they don't, Sakic will join Roy in wherever-land.

THe talented guys cant have career lows followed by career lows....if thats the case they are doomed.
But they moved out a lot of old and slow guys and added inexperienced but youth and speed.
THey might not be good next year but they sure will be entertaining. Really wont be a bad skater on that roster beides some of the 4th line guys in Soderberg and Comeau who arent that bad to begin with.

Think they can be like the Leafs last year. Av's little less talent, but similar younger team that was fun to watch.

JT Compher is going to be a fun guy to watch this season. Hes a mini drury, skates like him, plays like him. Might not have the offensive ability of him but he plays every shift 100% flat out every time.
Once his little buddy Greer comes up from the AHL, that bumhole and him will be magic again AJ Greer is the best, he cant go 2 shifts without pissing someone off

The only AV's games I get to see are when they play the Rangers and in the beginning of the season when Center Ice is free for a week or two.

you will get to see Compher opening night my friend. Hes the key to the ROR trade being meh to ok I see what they did there.
Zadorov, Compher, and Greer come from it but people rag on Grigorenko. He wasnt even the main component.
Who knows maybe you get to see Kerfoot for the season opener

Haven't been stopping by often in the dawg days but this is a blog up my alley. Had to vote for Middleton for Hodge trade, before my time but my Uncle still talks about this almost 40 yrs later.
BOS acquires Rick Middleton. NYR acquire Ken Hodge, Sr. - 154 votes
EDM acquires Doug Weight. NYR acquire Esa Tikkanen - 83 votes
BOS acquires Brad Park, Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi. NYR acquire Phil Esposito and Carol Vadnais - 63 votes
CHI acquires Tony Amonte and rights to Matt Oates. NYR acquire Stephane Matteau and Brian Noonan - 62 votes
TOR acquires Mike Gartner. NYR acquire Glenn Anderson, pick and player - 58 votes
WAS acquire Bob Crawford, Kelly Miller & Mike Ridley. NYR acquire Bobby Carpenter - 50 votes
LA acquires Tony Granato and Tomas Sandstrom. NYR acquire Bernie Nicholls - 45 votes
621 votes.
I have replaced the link on the blog, as I changed the settings so that more than one trade can be selected. Please limit your voting to just five. I will add these totals to the above to come up with the top five overall and then post the next blog.

I just don't know how you can put the 94 deadline deals in there (and the 93 Weight for Tikkanen trade) because we did get a Cup out of that with all those players we added contributing. I know you loved Amonte especially & commented on that prior. Keenan pressed to get Mattaeu all season that yr Smith later said. When the Hawks GM finally gave in & said "take Noonan too" he had to do it. He didn't want to but Iron Mike was obsesed w Mattaeu & obviously he did help just a little bit.

Because even though they won the Cup, the deals to me still were lopsided. In the blog, I asked if the end justified the means. If so, then people should select other trades. But included them as I know some feel they were imbalanced despite the end result. Keenan forced all these trades and of course there is no way to know if NY would have won without making them. But it's a distinct possibility. If not selecting those deals, then you can take the Ratelle, Middleton, Ridley/Miller. Gagner and Nicholls trades to still come up with five.

I often wondered if Keenan had stuck around longer how long he would have lasted anyway? I mean his & Neil's relationship was awful, maybe Smith would have quit. It took Bob Gutkowski to get them in a room together & hash things out days before the trade deadline to get on the same page cause they weren't even communicating at that point.

Barry Meisel's book, "Losing the Edge" goes through all of this in excellent detail. Worthwhile to pick up if you never read it. Keenan was power hungry. He got what he wanted in St. Louis and look what happened there. He needed a good GM as a buffer. Heck, he almost lost Leetch during the ECF because he benched him.
