Money as you said he's getting anywhere, however if you sign him for 11 per the Isles can pay him 11 million more right off the bat.
It's a big advantage don't discount it.
Agree with all the other points, the Arena and the teams success but it is a huge advantage an a big reason why most Super Star Free Agents sign with their team.
Of course The Islanders need to prove they are moving in the right direction or all bets are off. A great start next year is huge for The Islanders in the negotiations imho.

Honestly they were very good after all star break and eberle for strome is an upgrade and a full season of ho sang should help. Hamonic was garbage last year but replacing him with pulock is gonna be interesting too. I think with weight coaching we could see a 5 to 10 point increase as well

Honestly Upstate we are at the same point with the same questions as last year after they let FN, KO and MM Go and signed A Badd and Chimer.
Doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling honestly but then again I'm not drinking the Kool Aid.

He has to re-sign. Who was the last #1 player on a team in his age range not to re-sign for a team? Zach Parise and Ryan Suter comes to mind. Not sure about Kovalchuk. It just doesn't happen unless 13-year contracts get thrown around. And that's not happening. The extra year the isles can give JT is key here too. That alone is ~ 15% or so more over overall length. Only if he goes to FL/TN/TX he can save on state taxes and lower living expenses which would bring the overall contract more on par with Isles.

Unfortunately he doesn't have to sign and I wouldn't blame him if he didn't. I will blame him if he drags this on because he's "thinking" more and it's a "big decision" and (frank)s this team for the foreseeable future. Let's stop with the drama JT the team isn't moving to Kansas you know what you have in Snow and if that's what is stopping you from signing lets get the show on the road and get a great return for you. Respect for him is slowly fading away...

The extra year is not nearly as big of a deal as most Isles fans are making it out to be. Isles can guarantee money now that other teams can't. But it's not like if he signs for 7 years elsewhere, he won't make any money in the 8th year. Plus, if he signs a 7 year deal, his next contract will be at age 34. If he signs an 8 year deal, his next contract will be subject to the 35+ rule. 11x8 means his next contract will be 3 or 4 years at most. 11x7 means his next contract could be another 7 years he just retires for the last few of. Guaranteed money still has the edge, but if he really wants to maximize his career earnings, he'll likely make more with a 7 year contract than an 8 year contract as long as his play follows the usual curve for someone of his skill set.

Completely agree with this. Tavares already KNOWS what he has in a GM, team, coaches, owners. He probably only DOESN'T know about the arena however you're right. They're not going out of NY. I guess he can't be honest about what it really is. There's really nothing to wait on that WE know about. If he were to walk for nothing after this season, there should be an massive amount of torches and pitchforks sold.

I imagine once/if he passes the point of no return that he will let Snow now. As poopty as that may be, it might finally get Snow booted. At least in a sane world it might.

Right. Or, if Tavares walked after the year for nothing. That SHOULD get him fired. But these owners haven't shown us anything different then what Wang did.

I would love to say something positive to lift your guys spirits but I got nothing.

Hope JT re-signs soon so at least you guys don't have to endure the daily torture of of trade updates from EK and "input" from other teams fans.

Thanks, man. It's just a part of being an Isles fan. Someone must have made a deal with the devil for those four Cups saying we would be run by morons for the rest of the teams' existence.

Those were some damn fine teams you had back in the day. Arguably the best ever. At least you have that.

No kidding. Any time there seems to be any slight semblance of normalcy, Out pops the big top, the clowns all jump out of the car and the poop show is on. You're absolutely right about the owners. I've been calling them out since before last season started. All they did (Ledecky) was talk. Then when things went south early in the season, they disappeared. Pathetic.

Snow will not be to blame if he leaves....lol.

NY owners and politicians that can't get an arena built will be. This has been going on forever.... Lighthouse Project!!!!

The team is the going in the right direction.

Tavares just wants stability...

If he leaves.... Montreal will have a real shot at him.

Are you sure your not a closet pens fan? Worry about your own pile of garbage in LAsaying the kings are not very good would be a HUGE compliment.

I love how Bob was in here telling another poster to worry about their team. Can't make that sh!t up. Where have I heard that before?

I believe Snow is to blame because he hasn't gotten that big name guy to take some of the pressure off JT. If we get someone like Duschene, then I believe JT resigns. Eberle? I don't think he's enough. IMHO

If he wants to chase a cup, he's already gone in his head. No cup will be had here as long as Snowsense is here.
