I actually havent read the books, but have a good friend who has and we talk a lot about the background/environment the show is set in.

I think it is a pretty cool world, but as far as this season, I just think there is a very clear difference in writing. It feels like they're just cramming as much as they can into the last two seasons and the plotlines aren't as well thought out and dramatic. Seems to be done for the big scenes everyone wants to see when what made the show great was how intricate and detailed it all was

- YuenglingJagr

Yeah, as much as I've enjoyed some of the scenes in each episode (I'm really gonna miss Diana Rigg, she made every scene she was in special), it does seem kind of rushed. OTOH, if the show moved at the pace that Martin writes, it would be 22 seasons long and take 135 years or so to complete.

I'm actually having some trouble following some of the plot lines. Who are these people, where is this place, etc. It's probably because I haven't read the books or followed it closely.

For instance, where did the dragon attack take place? Wasn't that right outside of King's Landing?

That is actually one of the more annoying things...they abandon all concept of time and travel logistics for the sake of the plot. I get it, but I really can't say it isn't annoying me.

I am fairly certain Bronn points back at Highgarden when talking to Jamie when he says he owes him a castle, which would put the battle shortly outside of Highgarden. Even if it is somewhere on the road between Highgarden and Kings Landing, Dragonstone is still on the other side of Kings Landing (on an island). So to just stroll up there was a bit ridiculous, IMO. The scene was cool as poop though, so whatever

Yes, it was right outside of Kings Landing. The Tyrell's gold had been safely taken into the city, but there would be nowhere within the city for an army that large to camp so they would have been a few miles outside. Between that attack and the attack on Casterly Rock, the Lannister's army has all but been eliminated.

I suppose it could have been closer to Highgarden, but like you said, it's really not that important. The important part is that the gold got to Cersei, the Lannisters army got decimated and that the dragon's seriously kick ass.

Pronman gave us top prospect pool in NHL.

"The Flyers don't have as much game-breaking talent as our No. 2 team does at the top of their system, but 2017 No. 2 overall pick Nolan Patrick is right up there; after Patrick, the Flyers have the cupboards lined with talent at every position. The group includes solid first-round picks, middle-round selections who have trended up, and an undrafted free agent in Philippe Myers who is one of the very best defense prospects in hockey. Not too long ago, the Flyers' farm system was a laughingstock, with C-grade college free agents making it into their top five. Today, they are in the best position of any NHL team in terms of adding young premium players to their roster."

So, GoT fans, thoughts on this season so far?

I'm loving it!!

- BiggE

Love it, only thing I take issue with is how badass dorne is in the books vs. what they did with it in the show.

I always forget someone. Looking back, outside of the 00-01 season and his amazing run during the 03-04 playoffs, Primeau's career with the Flyers was pretty pedestrian. and prior to that playoff run, he had all of 1 goal and 5 points in 22 playoff games with the team. I also never liked his handling of the Bill Barber/players conflict in 2002.

Looking at his entire career with the Flyers, I'm not sure he deserves to be in the top 10, but he certainly deserves at least an honorable mention.

I have no problem with this.

Mike Knuble was a freaking beast for the Flyers. Nothing short of a monster, IMO

Glad to see him written about again. Looking forward to the other 25-in-25s

As opposed to 3 (now 7) movies about people talking in pubs and complaining that their warp drive is broken.

I know you're just quoting, but it is funny how offended Star Wars fan boys got at LOTR.

And finally, 2007-2017

1. Claude Giroux
2. Kimmo Timonen
3. Danny Briere
4. Scott Hartnell
5. Chris Pronger
6. Braydon Coburn
7. Jeff Carter
8. Mike Richards
9. Jake Voracek
10. Wayne Simmonds

Just missed the cut
Jaromir Jagr
Steve Mason
Simon Gagne
JVR
Sean Couturier

Huh.

I'm gonna quibble with you a bit.

Carter and Richards were unceremoniously dispatched and Richards in particular was an absolute sourpuss his last season or so, but I really think you have them too low.

To me, they are 3 (Carter) and 4 (Richards) on that list. And personally, I also think Hartnell was a better player as a Flyer than Briere. JMO

I know.....a good movie is a good movie. Those LoTR movies were good.

That whole conversation "Stars Wars/LoTR" conversation in Clerks 2 was funny, though.

And here is 1997-2007

This is a tough one.

1. Simon Gagne
This make shock some people, but when you look at his entire body of work during this time frame, I think it is deserved
2. Jeremy Roenick
3. Mark Recchi
4. Eric Desjardins
5. Kim Johnsson
6. Peter Forsberg
7. Roman Cechmanek
8. Mike Knuble
9. Michal Handzus
10. Sami Kapanen

Also in the running:
Eric Lindros- came close but other than 98-99 up until the collapsed lung, he just didn't do enough to make it. Plus the whole Lindros/Clarke thing, while not all his fault, still has to weigh against him. He has to take some of the blame for that mess

John Leclair- was injured a lot during this time frame and outside of 2 seasons in those 10 years was not really an impact player

Chris Therien- came close, but just didn't make the cut

- BiggE

Agree with you and MJL: Gagne is easily the top player of that 10-year segment for overall body of work

I'd probably swap Desjardins and Roenick, but that's just me. I also can understand that Primeau was polarizing, but I think he'd get in there on a list for me -- I think it's totally fine to have him and Kapanen tied

And now, 1987-1997. It doesn't get any easier

1. Eric Lindros
2. Rod Brind'amour
3. John Leclair
4. Michael Renberg
5. Rick Tocchet
6. Mark Recchi
7. Ron Hextall
8. Eric Desjardins
9. Mark Howe
10. Kevin Dineen

Coming close were:
Garry Galley
Kjell Samuelsson
Pelle Eklund

- BiggE

Huh. More quibbling, but I'd probably swap Rod the Bod and Johnny Vermont, as well as Recchi and Renberg
